Our next cricket will be the Women's Ashes Test which begins on Thursday morning at 03:30 GMT.

The urn is already long gone with England playing purely for pride and an attempt to avoid a whitewash.

Our colleague Henry Moeran has taken a look at why Australia are so much better than England.

Liam Livingstone's spin game has gone up a notch in this series.

Small sample size, but given England's overall struggles v spin in this series, Livingstone's improving numbers amidst these struggles is a positive sign.

    Liam Livingstone v Spin in T20Is 2022 - 2024 : Average - 17.1, Strike Rate - 80.5

    2025 : Average - 28.0, Strike Rate - 143.6

  4. 'Maybe 7.2/10'published at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Player of the match Varun Chakravarthy, who took 5-24, on TNT Sports: "Sad that we didn't make it this match, that's the nature of the game - you have to move on and get ready for the next match.

"When you're playing for the country you have to take up some accountability. I am able to do it to a certain extent."

On whether this was his best performance: "Maybe on this stage, yes. But I can definitely get better. I'd still say 7/10 - maybe 7.2."

  5. 'We are so fortunate to have him'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

England captain Jos Buttler on TNT Sports: "The guys bowled really well. It is nice to show off their skills, not just how fast they can bowl but how they can adapt to the wicket."

On whether Adil Rashid keeps getting better: "He does. He is the most important player in our team. He bowled fantastically tonight, has so many variations and styles of bowling. We are so fortunate to have him on our team."

On Jofra Archer, who took 2-33 after conceding 60 runs in the previous game: "You don't need to talk too much to Jofra. He is a superstar. He is incredibly consistent. It is not often he goes for 60 so when he does you know he will come back well."

And on his team's batting performance: "You could look at we lost wickets in clumps but we had 170 on the board which is a really good score. I love the way we kept taking the game on. If you can be disappointed in how you play and get 170 that is a great effort."

  6. 'A lot of things to learn'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

India captain Suryakumar Yadav on TNT Sports: "I felt there would be little bit of dew later on. With Hardik and Axar in we still had the game in our hands.

"Credit goes to Adil [Rashid] as well. He bowled really well. We wanted to rotate the strike. That is why he is a world class bowler. It is something to learn.

"You always learn something from a T20 game. We let them get too much at the end. From a batting point of view we have a lot of things to learn."

Before Liam Livingstone hit Ravi Bishnoi for three sixes England were in real strife.

Had he not done that England would not have had anywhere near enough.

That was the game-changing moment so he would be my player of the match.

That's how you shut the doubters up. Those that were questioning why Overton or Archer were in the team. That is why. For taking early wickets, and holding catches. How brilliant was Rashid in stifling those runs? A master spin bowler. Keep it up lads, well done.

India got their tactics wrong but credit to England. They held their nerve and were excellent in the field.

I didn't think they would defend that as comfortably as they did.

It is a good feel-good moment. It sets up the series really well.

All of the talk was 190 or 200 needed at this venue. Rather than listening to the stats you have to read what is in front of you.

The first ball scuttled under the bat of Phil Salt and double bounced through to the keeper.

At halfway you felt India, with the power they have, had the depth to chase that total but England bowled really well.

  14. 'As a unit we bowled exceptionally well'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

England spinner Adil Rashid, who took 1-15 in four overs: "As a team we bowled exceptionally well. It [Varma dismissal] gripped, spun nicely and went through the gate. As a unit we bowled exceptionally well.

"As you get more experience and work on your game you start developing different things. One of my strengths is to mix it up. I work hard in the nets. Hopefully I can continue on.

"When we were batting it looked slow and low and wasn't coming onto the bat. We had to adjust and see whether pace on or off worked. We varied it and got the result."

Jamie Overton finishes with three wickets, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse two while Mark Wood and Adil Rashid took one apiece.

It was a fine all-round bowling effort to defend a total that looked below par at halfway.
