The Triple Truck Challenge is a bonus program for race winners for designated races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series each season that is designed to give attention to series regulars. The program debuted in 2019.

History

On February 4, 2019, NASCAR announced the formation of the Triple Truck Challenge. The Challenge consisted of three consecutive races, held at Texas Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Gateway Motorsports Park. Only drivers eligible for Truck Series points could be on the entry lists for those races. If a driver won one of the three races, a $50,000 prize was awarded; if a driver won two of the three races, a $200,000 prize was awarded; and if a driver won all three races, a $500,000 prize was awarded. [1] Greg Biffle won the first race of the challenge, driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports in a one-off entry, and was not eligible to win the bonus money for the next race at Iowa due to not being listed on the preliminary entry form. [2]

For 2020, the Challenge races were planned to be to Richmond Raceway, Dover International Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, again holding consecutive slots in the schedule. [3] The requirement for a driver to be on the preliminary entry list to be eligible for the prize money was also dropped. [4] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 races were changed to the Daytona International Speedway road course, a rescheduled Dover date and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. [5]

Darlington Raceway and Circuit of the Americas were introduced for the 2021 Challenge, while Charlotte returned as the third race. [6]

In 2022, the races were: World Wide Technology Raceway, Nashville and Mid-Ohio. [7]

In 2023, the races were: Charlotte, World Wide Technology Raceway and Nashville. [8]

2024 will have the same schedule as 2023, with the tracks remaining as Charlotte, World Wide Technology Raceway and Nashville. [9]

Historic and prestigious races in NASCAR are often called Crown Jewels. Most commonly these races are the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600, and Southern 500. NASCAR also recognizes the Brickyard 400 as a Crown Jewel. During the Winston Million program, the Winston 500 at Talledega was included, but most modern sources do not include it as a Crown Jewel race. Winning all Crown Jewel races in a single year is sometimes referred to as a Grand Slam.

The team was founded in early 2017 when racing team owners David Gilliland and Bo LeMastus came together to form a collaborative effort from their respective teams, David Gilliland Racing and Crosley Sports Group, known as DGR-Crosley. DGR-Crosley fielded Toyotas in 2018 and 2019 before announcing its switch to Ford starting in 2020. The team reverted to the David Gilliland Racing name in 2021 as Johnny Gray became a co-owner. The 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series was the 26th season of the third highest stock car racing series sanctioned by NASCAR in North America. The season began at Daytona International Speedway with the NextEra Energy 250 on February 14. The regular season ended with the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway on September 10. The NASCAR playoffs ended with the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix Raceway on November 6, where Sheldon Creed won the championship over his teammates Zane Smith and Brett Moffitt in a 1-2-3 sweep for GMS Racing in the standings. ThorSport Racing driver Grant Enfinger finished fourth in the standings, the other driver to advance to the Championship 4. Austin Hill won the regular season championship and was the points leader for most of the season, but failed to advance to the Championship 4 and finished 6th in the standings.

The 2020 EchoPark 250 was a NASCAR Xfinity Series race held on June 6, 2020, at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. Contested over 163 laps on the 1.54-mile (2.48 km) asphalt quad-oval intermediate speedway, it was the eighth race of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and the season's first Dash 4 Cash race. Kaulig Racing part-time driver A. J. Allmendinger won his first ever race on a NASCAR oval.

Contested over 177 laps—extended from 167 laps due to a double overtime finish—on the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) oval, it was the tenth race of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and the season's second Dash 4 Cash race. Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe won his third race of the season.

The 2020 Unhinged 300 was a NASCAR Xfinity Series race held on June 20, 2020 at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama. Contested over 113 laps on the 2.66-mile (4.28 km) superspeedway, it was the 11th race of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and the season's third Dash 4 Cash race. Kaulig Racing's Justin Haley picked up his first career Xfinity Series victory.

The 2020 Pocono Green 225, branded as the Pocono Green 225 Recycled by J.P. Mascaro & Sons, was a NASCAR Xfinity Series race held on June 28, 2020 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Contested over 91 laps—extended from 90 laps due to an overtime finish—on the 2.5-mile (4.0 km) triangular racecourse, it was the 12th race of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and the season's fourth and final Dash 4 Cash race. Chase Briscoe won his fourth race of the season.

On October 15, 2012, NASCAR and the Fox Sports Media Group (FSMG) announced a new $2.4 billion eight-year deal, a 30% increase from their previous deal. On July 23, 2013, NASCAR and the NBC Sports Group announced a new $4.4 billion ten-year deal. Ten days later on August 1, 2013, NASCAR and Fox extended and expanded their agreement, paying an additional $1.4 billion to do so, to complete NASCAR's new TV package through the 2024 season. NBC reportedly bid over 50% more than ESPN and Turner for their portion of the package, despite Turner and ESPN expressing interest about continuing their relationship with NASCAR.
