Rovos Air

The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 is a series of five-abreast single-aisle airliners developed by McDonnell Douglas. It was produced by the developer company until August 1997 and then by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The MD-80 was the second generation of the DC-9 family, originally designated as the DC-9-80 and later stylized as the DC-9 Super 80 . Stretched, enlarged wing and powered by higher bypass Pratt & Whitney JT8D-200 engines, the aircraft program was launched in October 1977. The MD-80 made its first flight on October 18, 1979, and was certified on August 25, 1980. The first airliner was delivered to launch customer Swissair on September 13, 1980, which introduced it into service on October 10, 1980.

Air Namibia (Pty) Limited, which traded as Air Namibia, was the national airline of Namibia, headquartered in the country's capital, Windhoek. It operated scheduled domestic, regional, and international passenger and cargo services, having its international hub in Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport and a domestic hub at the smaller Windhoek Eros Airport. As of December 2013, the carrier was wholly owned by the Namibian government. Air Namibia was a member of both the International Air Transport Association and the African Airlines Association.

The Douglas DC-4 is an American four-engined (piston), propeller-driven airliner developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company. Military versions of the plane, the C-54 and R5D, served during World War II, in the Berlin Airlift and into the 1960s. From 1945, many civil airlines operated the DC-4 worldwide.

Africa Safari Airways was an airline based in Mombasa, Kenya. It operated charter flights and inclusive tours beginning in 1967 from Europe, mainly to Mombasa. Its main base was Moi International Airport, Mombasa. It ceased operations in 2009.

Northern Air Cargo, LLC (NAC) is an American cargo airline based in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. NAC operates a small fleet of Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-400 and Boeing 737-800 freighter aircraft within the state of Alaska as well as widebody Boeing 767-300 freighter services throughout the Caribbean and South America. Other services include aircraft maintenance services through its subsidiary, Northern Air Maintenance Services, on demand charters and consolidation of cargo. With a main base at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, NAC also operates out of a hub at Miami International Airport. NAC is a division of Saltchuk which is the corporate parent of a number of transportation and distribution companies including Aloha Air Cargo, a cargo airline based in Hawaii.

Gryphon Airlines was an American-owned airline company with offices in Vienna, Virginia, United States. It was a subsidiary of Gryphon Holdings, LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company, which provided contract air services to various American airbases in the Middle East and South Central Asia. It initially operated as an indirect carrier utilizing ATR 72 aircraft from Swiftair SA of Madrid, Spain. A year later, Gryphon Holdings introduced DC-9 services to Baghdad with the support of Global Airways, a South African air charter company. A few months later, Gryphon acquired Rovos Air through TIM Holdings (PTY) LTD in South Africa permitting it to offer its own direct air services as Gryphon Airlines employing DC-9 and MD-82 aircraft. Gryphon became the first airline to offer scheduled flights to the military side of the Baghdad Airport, when these flights began in March 2007 from Kuwait. Gryphon provided air services to various US prime and subcontractors. Concurrent with the US 2012 draw down from Iraq, Gryphon concentrated its focus in support of Afghanistan from Dubai. Gryphon Airlines was sold to a South African company in 2014.

Alisarda S.p.A., operating as Alisarda, was an Italian airline based in Olbia, Sardinia that operated between 1963 and 1991 before it merged with Universair to become Meridiana. As of 2019, Alisarda S.p.A. is a holding company with a 51% stake in Meridiana successor airline Air Italy.

Minerve was a French airline, headquartered in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, that operated from 1975 until it merged with AOM to form AOM French Airlines in 1992.

ZAS Airline of Egypt was an airline from Egypt that operated between 1982 and 1995.

On 10 July 2018, a Convair 340 owned by Dutch aviation museum Aviodrome crashed during a trial flight in Pretoria, South Africa. The aircraft suffered an engine fire moments after takeoff and crashed into a factory building as the crew attempted to return it to Wonderboom Airport.
