Kars Province is a province of Turkey, located in the northeastern part of the country. It shares part of its closed border with Armenia. Its area is 10,193 km2, and its population is 274,829 (2022). The provincial capital is the city of Kars. The provinces of Ardahan and Iğdır were part of Kars Province until 1992.

Gümüşhane Province is a province in northern Turkey, bordering Bayburt to the east, Trabzon to the north, Giresun and Erzincan to the west. Its area is 6,668 km2, and its population is 144,544 (2022). The population was 186,953 in 2000. Gümüşhane is the capital city of the province. The name Gümüşhane means silver house. The city has a rich mining history and was the source of exports for Trabzon. The current Governor is Alper Tanrısever, appointed in August 2023.
Nokul or lokum is a type of puff pastry from the Turkish cuisine. It is common in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey and the Turkish-minority areas of Bulgaria with variations. Nokul is sometimes served hot as an appetizer instead of bread. It consists of a rolled sheet of yeast dough onto which feta-style white cheese, walnut or poppy seed is sprinkled over a thin coat of butter. The dough is then rolled, cut into individual portions, and baked.
The Turkish State Railways (TCDD) started building high-speed rail lines in 2003. TCDD has branded its high-speed service as Yüksek Hızlı Tren (YHT) which currently operates on three lines: the Ankara–Istanbul high-speed railway and the Ankara–Konya high-speed railway and the Ankara-Sivas high-speed railway. Yüksek Hızlı Tren or YHT is a high-speed rail service in Turkey, operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, and is the railway's premier intercity train service. As of 2022, the network spans 1,385 km (860.6 mi) and services major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Eskişehir, İzmit and Konya. Expansion of the system is underway and the network is expected to reach Sivas, Edirne, Afyonkarahisar, Adana and İzmir in the 2020s.

The Touristic Eastern Express is a scenic passenger train operated by the TCDD Taşımacılık. The train runs from December to March eastward 1,365 km (848 mi) from Ankara Railway Station to Kars Railway Station. The train service debuted on 29 May 2019 with an official ceremony attended by government ministers. The service was established as an alternative to the regular Eastern Express, which runs the same line but was mostly sold-out weeks in advance in recent years for sightseeing purposes.

The Ankara–Kars railway is a major railway in Turkey. Stretching 1,446.1 km (898.6 mi) across, it is by far the longest railway line in the country. The railway begins in Ankara and travels east via Kırıkkale, Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan and Erzurum, until Kars, in the far east of Turkey. The majority of the railway is single-track, however multi-track sections are present within Ankara, Kayseri and Sivas. 652 km (405 mi) of the line is electrified with 25 kV AC, 15 Hz overhead wire in two separate areas: from Ankara to Hanlı and from Çetinkaya to Divriği, and electrification of the remaining 344 km (214 mi) long gap from Hanlı to Çetinkaya is under construction.
