Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah is the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait. A senior member of the Al-Sabah ruling family, he held various government positions from 2006 to 2022, serving as Foreign Minister from 2011 to 2019 and as Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022. He was appointed Crown Prince by Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on 1 June 2024.
Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense of Kuwait, and before that he was the head of the Amiri Diwan in 2006–2017. Nasser was the eldest son of the hereditary ruler or Emir of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (1929–2020). Prior to his death in December 2020, just seventy-two days after his father's death, Nasser was identified as a leading candidate to become the Crown Prince of Kuwait, or the heir apparent. He was a key figure in Kuwait's Vision 2035 plan, which included a planned city in northern Kuwait dubbed "Silk City".

The Kuwaiti political gridlock, which extended from 2020 to May 2024, was marked by a persistent standoff between the appointed cabinet and the elected parliament in Kuwait. This crisis was set against a backdrop of successive internal succession crises within the ruling Al Sabah family, beginning with the death of Emir Sabah Al Ahmad in 2020. Leadership transitioned to his half-brother Nawaf, who died in 2023, subsequently elevating Mishal Al Sabah to the role of emir. Before June 1, 2024, Mishal, the last surviving member of his generation and a son of Ahmad Al Jaber Al-Sabah, had not appointed a successor.
Sheikh Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah was one of the sons of Mubarak Al-Sabah, the seventh ruler of the Sheikhdom of Kuwait, and his wife Hessa bint Falah bin Rakan Al-Hithlain. He is the progenitor of the Al-Hamad branch of the Al-Sabah ruling family of Kuwait. Sheikh Hamad was one of three candidates nominated by the notables of Kuwait to potentially succeed Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. It is said that he was the favorite child of his father. At his wedding, his father hosted a celebration in Kuwait that was unprecedented in its grandeur during that era. In 2024, his grandson Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah became the first crown prince among his descendants.
