A charity that enables young people to realise their full potential through the power of computing
About us
The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based charity with the mission to enable young people to realise their full potential through the power of computing and digital technologies. Our vision Our vision is that every young person develops: • The knowledge, skills, and confidence to use computers and digital technologies effectively in their work, community, and personal life; to solve problems and to express themselves creatively • Sufficient understanding of societal and ethical issues to be able to critically evaluate digital technologies and their application, and to design and use technology for good • The mindsets that enable them to confidently engage with technological change and to continue learning about new and emerging technologies Our long-term goals 1. Education: To enable any school to teach students about computing and how to create with digital technologies, through providing the best possible curriculum, resources, and training for teachers. 2. Non-formal learning: To engage millions of young people in learning about computing and how to create with digital technologies outside of school, through online resources and apps, clubs, competitions, and partnerships with youth organisations. 3. Research: To deepen our understanding of how young people learn about computing and how to create with digital technologies, and we use that knowledge to increase the impact of our work and advance the field of computing education.

I am excited to be travelling to South Africa! My mission is clear: 1) To meet with our Code Club partners and visit Code Clubs: And learn about their contexts. How are they working in South African schools? What are the challenges? And what are the opportunities? 2) To meet new potential Code Club partner organisations: And learn about their work, reach and impact in South Africa 3) To meet with the Department of Basic Education: And talk about the Coding and Robotics CAPS curriculum I'm honoured to be making this trip on behalf of my organisation, the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a key global leader in the democratisation of computing education. Thanks to connections made by Prof Jean Greyling (whose work I first learnt about when I travelled to South Africa in 2023, and featured in our Hello World computing magazine: Issue#23 South Africa: Unplugged Coding), I will be visiting four provinces (Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal) to learn more about the coding and robotics landscape, in formal and non formal education. Having lived in South Africa for over a decade (before moving to the UK) and having led non-formal education programmes in low-income schools for 4+ years, this trip means A LOT to me, as I firmly believe that education is most impactful when it connects with the contexts, needs and lived experiences of a people. Backed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation's commitment to advance computing education in a way that is relevant and helpful for our growth markets, I genuinely hope to gain valuable insight into the contexts of the teaching and learning of coding and robotics (formally and non-formally) in South African schools.

Get your kids creating pixel art! 👾 In this activity, your kids will create a pixel art editor. As well as using #HTML and #CSS, they’ll use #JavaScript to add interactivity. They can also experiment with adding more colours to the palette to create even more colourful pixel images 🎨 Get started: rpf.io/pixel-art #LearnToCode #CodingForKids #Coding

This World Space Week, bring space exploration to your classroom by joining Mission Space Lab 🌌 With Astro Pi Mission Space Lab, your students will use Python to tackle a real scientific challenge, gathering data to calculate the speed at which the International Space Station travels as accurately as possible. It’s a great opportunity for your students to learn coding, analyse data, and engage with space science in a hands-on way 🌍 Danny, a computer science teacher from Dublin, shares more on his experience with taking part. #WorldSpaceWeek #MissionSpaceLab #AstroPi

Delighted to share the findings of the independent evaluation of the effectiveness of Code Club undertaken by the University of Durham Evidence Centre for Education. This blog from Raspberry Pi Foundation Head of Impact Ben Durbin summarises the findings (spoiler: attending a Code Club helps young people develop a wide range of skills, confidence, and mindsets). I'll include a link to the University of Durham's full report in the comments. Over the next 10 years, we want to inspire at least 10 million more young people through Code Club. If you'd like to get involved, get in touch. https://lnkd.in/eNX_fipj
