High-Level Political Forum
The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) took place from Tuesday, 7 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. The forum included a three-day ministerial segment from Tuesday, 14 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020, as part of ECOSOC’s High-Level Segment, which concluded on Friday, 17 July 2020. The theme for the 2020 HLPF was "Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development". The HLPF adopted the Ministerial Declaration as the outcome of its session.
Bringing together representatives from government, civil society, business and finance in a virtual gathering, the HLPF looked at how the world can effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, through a strengthened multilateral approach and build back better by scaling up global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – the blueprint for a more sustainable world.
Forty-seven countries presented their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs): Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Bangladesh, Barbados, Benin, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Burundi, Comoros, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, Gambia, Georgia, Honduras, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Malawi, Micronesia (Federated States of), Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, North Macedonia. Panama, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Syrian Arab Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Zambia.
In addition to the main sessions, HLPF 2020 featured 194 Side Events, 17 VNR Labs, 9 Special Events, and 10 Exhibitions held on the margins of the forum, offering opportunities for deeper engagement and collaboration.
