High-Level Political Forum
The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) took place from 9 to 18 July 2018. The forum included a three-day ministerial segment from 16 to 18 July 2018, as part of ECOSOC’s High-Level Segment (HLS). The ECOSOC HLS concluded on 19 July 2018. This year’s forum, under the theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies,” concluded with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration.
In line with the integrated and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the HLPF 2018 conducted in-depth reviews the following goals: Goal 6: Water and sanitation for all; Goal 7: Sustainable and Modern Energy for All; Goal 11: Cities and Human Settlements; Goal 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns; Goal 15: Life on Land; and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Forty-six countries presented their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), sharing their progress on the 2030 Agenda. Participating countries in 2018 included:
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Benin, Bhutan, Cabo Verde, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Greece, Guinea, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Kiribati, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Namibia, Niger, Paraguay, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, State of Palestine, Sudan, Switzerland, Togo, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Vietnam.
In addition to the main sessions, the HLPF 2018 featured 260 Side Events, 8 VNR Labs, 8 Special Events, and 33 Exhibitions held on the margins of the forum, offering opportunities for deeper engagement and collaboration.
