Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

The Stoic (2024 film) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, The Stoic (2024 film), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. A tag has been placed on Scousie accent requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.

Please refrain from introducing multiple countries into the opening sentence of the lede in film articles. Per the guidelines, If the nationality is singularly defined by reliable sources (e.g., being called an American film), identify it in the opening sentence. If the nationality is not singular, cover the different national interests later in the lead section.

Please also refrain from adding Ireland/Irish to film articles' production countries unless Irish production companies were involved.

Please use edit summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account, you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary), and then click the "Save" button. Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Category creation

[edit]

Hello, Foetaldiner,

You have only been an editor for a few weeks but you have been very prolific, doing a lot of edits over a short period of time. I recommend that you slow down and spend more time learning about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. For example, you are creating a lot of unnecessary categories that just need to be deleted later by administrators, creating extra work for them. You should have a very good reason for creating a new page, there should be a need for it.

If you have questions about editing on Wikipedia or page creation, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:41, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please take care in editing ~ i have noticed a number of errors you have introduced into this article with regard to the dates you are using. To be exact, you are giving wrong ~ maybe random ~ dates for the publication of certain of the references you cite. Indeed, some of them are claiming the articles were published in 2022, prior to the events they are reporting; this is both absurd and extremely unhelpful. I have corrected some, and will continue with others, but i urge you to please be accurate as you add references ~ LindsayHello 10:31, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Persistent problems

[edit]

You do not appear to be taking any notice at all of the messages you have received concerning editing problems. Thus you continue to do most if not all of the things you have been warned of, including unsourced editing, editing with errors in sourcing, editing without giving edit summaries, and so on. You have also never acknowledged or responded to any of the messages to you. Since writing messages to you doesn't work, the only other method of trying to get you to take notice is to block you from editing. If you continue to edit in unhelpful ways that yiu have previously been warned about, you may be blocked from editing, without further notice. I hope that you won't choose to make that necessary, but instead will take this warning to heart, and act on it; that is my purpose in writing it. JBW (talk) 10:02, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The disappearance of Heimnot Kassau

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from he:פרשת היעלמותה של היימנוט קסאו to The disappearance of Heimnot Kassau. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Also, please maintain the integrity of in-line citations by positioning them in the same positions in the translated text as in the original, without translating the original citation titles into English. The citation template has the option to provide a translated title and language indicator for non-English sources. Please also be aware that a title translated from another language version of Wikipedia might not be an acceptable name on English Wikipedia. In this case the definite article "The" should not have been included in the title and the article has been renamed by another editor to omit the definite article.

Additionally, I have reassessed this article that you misrepresented as a Good Article, and downgraded it to only being Start-class, this is comparable with its Hebrew Wikipedia translation, too. In any case, the article immediately fails the Good Article criteria because the citations are disassociated from the paragraphs that the citations support; so much so that another editor deleted all of them from the end of the article when they removed the investigation section as being irrelevant. Please take care next time you translate an article from another version of Wikipedia to place your citations at the same point in the text as in the original. Also, there is a Good Article nomination process, which means major contributors to an article cannot then review or assess the article. Since the article was never nominated by you, and never reviewed by an independent editor, it cannot be assessed as a good article. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 10:54, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please leave a descriptive edit summaries that explain your edits

[edit]

Please explain your contributions using a descriptive edit summary. Changing information on Wikipedia (such as numbers and dates) without explanation, as you did at Turkey meat, may be confused with vandalism. In one of those edit you changed a working redirect without explanation, which is contrary to Wikipedia guidelines. In this edit you changed the link from Taiwanese turkey rice to Chiayi turkey rice; doing this is contrary to the guideline WP:NOTBROKEN, meaning if a link to an article via a redirect is not broken do not fix it, unless there is a VERY good reason to do so. Not providing an edit summary, or merely providing a default edit summary without further explanation can be seen as a form of disruptive editing, because your lack of explanation means other editors need to work harder to scrutinise your work and may simply revert it because you have not explained yourself. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 00:18, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I do not provide an edit summary is because most edits I make are often very slight changes which I believe are just miniscule insignifant improvements, I do not realize it is such a big deal. In the early days of Wikipedia, you'd get applauded just for doing anything, now you get vehemently blasted just for doing anything out of the ordinary. Foetaldiner (talk) 05:35, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Having been an editor since the early days of Wikipedia, providing an edit summary to explain your edits has always been a basic courtesy of editing, as far as I am aware. And not only on Wikipedia but other wiki-websites too. It is a basic expectation that EVERY edit has a summary and you can set your user preferences to remind yourself to always provide one. Not providing an edit summary is a sign that an editor is not willing to have their bold edits challenged and reverted, however insignificant these might seem. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 07:45, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You may like to reconsider the expression "vehemently blasted"; there are messages above about edit summaries which look to me like polite requests. Experience over the years is that editors who perceive attacks and aggression where there is none don't tend to have a good time here. JBW (talk) 12:17, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
