Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

== Welcome! ==

Hi Dhantegge! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab/Israel conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab/Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to your being blocked from editing.

Hello

[edit]

Hi Dhantegge, im Kiwiz1338. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I'm just here to send a quick message about some pages you, and then subsequently I have edited, in which I have changed some of your edits, to what I believe to be more NPOV. I wish to create no hostility towards fellow editors, so I thought if you had any issues, questions or disagreements about what I've changed, we could bring them here to discuss. Political articles will always be a challenging aspect of Wikipedia, so any consensus is great. Thanks for your time. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 11:51, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've checked through your edits and that's all good, thanks for telling me! Dhantegge (talk) 11:41, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Heya!

[edit]

Thanks for your interest and contributions to the New Zealand election pages Wikipedia. In regards to the Election results I appreciate the concerns you had with the new maps. Just before changing them around too much a talk page might be useful as that is what we've done before with party leader portraits (which are a nightmare to use freely in this country). Just because its better to have all the pages in the same style for ease of reading and information access id recommend trying a talk page first before attempting to change all the maps from 1957 onwards. RileySpaghetti (talk) 03:54, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay! I just wanted to change a few to see how it would go, rather than starting a discussion on just one of them. But if that's how it works that's cool Dhantegge (talk) 09:37, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Anti-Māori sentiment, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Raupatu. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 08:27, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you are going to delete something, citing a (non-existent) rule, please look for the rule, and if it does not exist, do not assert that it exists. Thanks, and happy editing, and good luck. 2603:7000:2101:AA00:54B:36AA:A773:7A69 (talk) 08:05, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but that was a notable event. I would never use Wikipedia to slander anyone. Dhantegge (talk) 23:47, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Anti-Māori sentiment, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Te Ara

[edit]

I saw your edits on Tītokowaru's War then looked at your overall contributions and noted many of the Te Ara references don't have a URL and appear to be a copy & paste bellow the "How to cite this page" section. Would it be okay if you could try using "Template:Cite encyclopedia" for these circumstances, it's preferred using the template rather than just copy & pasting the text bellow the Te Ara article. Let me know if you need more help on citing stuff. Thank you. Alexeyevitch(talk) 12:00, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, this has come up before. Yes I have been using the copy and paste one. I do know how to cite APA so I'll look at that for future. Cheers Alex. Dhantegge (talk) 23:06, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I hope you're not worried by the template message above! I made an article about the JD Vance couch thing. It was a notable event and we have pages for memes like it, probably most notably the Campaign for the neologism "santorum". Dhantegge (talk) 23:08, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm a big fan of your work. Would you be interested in GA reviewing the Opawa article? Home to a prominent church building centered on Opawa Road, an international ice rink sporting venue, and a well-respected Māori chief who used to lived in the area etc. Yes, I'm a local here, I live in Christchurch (but not in Opawa). Let me know if you're interested in reviewing this. Alexeyevitch(talk) 02:58, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind I think I'll atempt to do it via GA circles. Feel free to read the article. Alexeyevitch(talk) 12:01, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh hey Alex. I'll take a look. Will be very busy all week. And the feeling is mutual - your work is great too! Dhantegge (talk) 06:46, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Southshore, New Zealand is also worth mentioning. Alexeyevitch(talk) 07:18, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Logo of the Reform Party of New Zealand

[edit]

Kia ora. I have some questions regarding the logos of the Reform Party of New Zealand that you uploaded. I tried to find the source of these logos but haven't been able to come with anything. Additionally, I believe that the green colour used in the logos was never associated with the party before it was chosen on Wikipedia. Rather, the Reform Party primarily used blue while active.

- File:Reform Party logo new 2 copy.png

- File:New Zealand Reform Party logo recreation copy.png

I am extremely curious as to what these logos are based on. For now I have removed the logo from the page and added a note to the commons listing, I will be very happy to restore it once I have confirmed the source.

All the best. Peetel (talk) 06:13, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here. https://natlib.govt.nz/records/22698390
As I can see, they did use blue; the only reason I used green is because Wikipedia does - I assumed there was a source for this, and that the (teal) blue on the poster was just a faded shade of green. Are you suggesting they just chose green arbitrarily? I always thought it odd... Dhantegge (talk) 09:36, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a direct source for the colour. Te Ara uses blue for Reform. I've tried to look through old discussions to find why green was chosen for Reform and couldn't find anything. Given that another poster by Reform used blue and red I assume that green was chosen to distinguish from National. Other international parties have been similarly coloured arbitrarily for distinction, e.g. Democratic-Republican Party.
Do you also have a source for the other logo?
Thanks Peetel (talk) 10:07, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Same as the one I sent you.
Tell you what. I think there's potential for a logo to be recreated from this source you listed. Should I have a go at that instead?
All the best Dhantegge (talk) 01:28, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I hadn't meant to make anything inaccurate. I just trusted that the colour green was sourced from somewhere, and adapted the logo on that poster. That poster definitely seems like a more legitimate logo given the flourishes of the kōwhaiwhai on the edges, the Jack and the Southern Cross. Dhantegge (talk) 01:30, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mean to say you intentionally did anything. It's a cool logo and well made. Before colour newspapers and TV there wasn't the consistency in political logos or colours that there is today. I wonder if it would be possible to include the ad as it is (an ad, not a logo?). Not to sure about all of the rules here and what counts as a logo, I'm new to this--take this as advice not instruction. Peetel (talk) 08:01, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
