Hello, WildStar,

Control copyright iconHello WildStar, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Draft:Cornwall Electric have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 17:09, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Please read WP:NOTVANDALISM and perhaps also WP:DTTR. Oh, an you might want to remove the major BLP violation you reinstated, as well as consider whether the highly promotional YouTube links could be replaced with something, well, less obviously money-grabbing with their details of how to download the ringtone for the song etc. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 20:36, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Sitush, feel free to remove that section if you wish. My edit clearly shows (diff) that I did not add that, but please do not use your rollback right to revert back to a previous edit that you like, wiping out an entire edit of fixes to do so! Perhaps you too should do some reading, starting with WP:ROLLBACKUSE. Take care! — WILDSTARtalk 21:28, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Maybe also fix this talk page, which seems to lack the ability to edit sections? - Sitush (talk) 20:37, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Sitush, I hadn't noticed that before. Thanks for pointing it out! — WILDSTARtalk 21:28, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi! I'm a new wiki user and I've been trying to create a page for Megha Rao, an Indian poet and writer. the page was declined once and I made some changes, including adding reviews to the references. However, the reviews have been declared unusable by the moderator as they are from GoodReads. I was asked to contact you for help as you've worked on Aranya Johar's page, which is quite similar in essence. Would it be possible for you to provide me with some direction? Thanks so much! Small thing about your signature

Hey there, just one little thing: in the talk part of your signature, you've got the ]] within the span tags. I noticed this because I use syntax highlighting in the wikitext editor. Take a look, your signature turns everything after it blue :) Kind regards from PJvanMill (talk) 21:28, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

@PJvanMill:Hi PJ! I fixed that the other day!  :) But I do see it in nice bright red above right now! :( I'll clean those out right away for you. Wish you would have told me sooner though! lol Thanks! -- WILDSTARtalk 22:03, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

A box of fresh goodies
Goodies, not to mention a whole box of them, must be taken and opened quickly while fresh, as each may contain a “Best before date”. Not realizing that you were away, but concerned about providing fresh goodies, I grabbed it back to keep here, but it being "goodies"... well... you know the rest! Although not personally delivered, a box with more of the same (albeit maybe not quite as fresh), packaged on July 10, 2020, can be found here. I can only hope that you will find this one just as satisfying and motivational!  :-) Enjoy! — WILDSTARtalk 16:47, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Article Schnuffel References

Hi Less Unless. I did not want to intrude on your Talk Page, or leave a more detailed note on Wikipedia:Cleanup, or the article itself, so I'm leaving my message for you here.

I wasn't sure if your concern was of a technical nature or not, so I'll cover both.

For repeated citations, multiple page same source, duplicate citations see WP:IBID, WP:DUPREF and their surrounding sections. See WP:REFNAME for the named reference feature which was the method I used, and can sometimes be more easily accomplished using the "re-use" feature available in the VisualEditor when managing references.

If the ask is about the actual landing page used by those references and their contents or validity as appropriate references, you'll need to determine whether or not if at one time they may have been valid and cannot be replaced. I generally follow the guidelines used for keeping and mitigating dead links as outlined in WP:KDL and WP:MDLI. Of course, if there are too many of those, rendering the article without sufficient citations, you would then tag it with the appropriate maintenance template(s) or tag(s).

Hope that helps! All the best! :) -- WILDSTARtalk 14:40, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

For anyone else reading this and possibly needing help with references, please see this excellent manual Help:Introduction to referencing with Wiki Markup/1.

@WildStar: Thank you for the detailed explanation, I'll go through all the guidelines you mentioned for a better overall understanding. And you can definitely intrude anytime on my talk page - that's what it's for. I appreciate your help. Best, Less Unless (talk) 18:14, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

The Junta of Happenstance moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, The Junta of Happenstance, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. — WILDSTARTALK 16:56, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Jacob Galea

@WildStar: Hi Wildstar, can you help me fix and remove the paid editing tag on this article Jacob Galea, it doesn't seem to indicate anything has been paid for and is very neutural. Thanks. Sanjida more (talk) 04:07, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

@Sanjida more: As a contributor to the WikiProjects Wikipedia:WikiProject Citation cleanup I do not involve myself with Conflict of Interest (COI) issues. (None of us do). The article was moved to draft space @ 10:52, 15 May 2020 by Lapablo (talk) . Reviewing Wikipedia:Conflict of interest may help you resolve any perceived COI issues. Good luck and thank you for reaching out. -- WILDSTAR talk

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:19, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:33, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
