Abstract

Welcome to the 53rd annual SIGCSE Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE TS 2022). The Symposium is a forum for educators and researchers to share new results and insights around developing, implementing, or evaluating computing programs, pedagogy, curricula, and courses.

This year for the first time the Symposium will be held in a hybrid format. We have a large team of volunteers who have worked hard to ensure that both in-person and online participants will have many opportunities to present, discuss and share ideas with other researchers and practitioners from institutions around the world.

Our conference theme is "A Beacon of Hope for the Future." We particularly want to highlight computing education's role in giving society hope for a better future.

The SIGCSE Technical Symposium provides many ways to share ideas, including papers, panels, special sessions, workshops, the ACM Student Research Competition, Birds of a Feather (BoFs), demos, lightning talks, nifty assignments, posters, and affiliated events.

Following the model established several years ago, papers were submitted to one of three tracks (Computing Education Research, Experience Reports and Tools, Position and Curricula Initiatives), with tailored reviewing for each track. Each paper submission received at least three reviews. All other submissions received at least two reviews and most received three reviews. We thank the team of 588 reviewers and 68 associate program chairs (APCs) who provided valuable feedback to authors.
