categories
[edit]Hi! What's the point of having two categories: Category:Gulripsh_district and Category:Gulripshi district? Why did you create the latter a year after creating the former? Let's leave the older one. Best regard, Alaexis (talk) 21:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, both are correct names. Checking Google for the Common name give: 281,000 results for Gulripshi and only 19,900 results for Gulripsh. So i believe that the correct naming in Commons shuld be Gulripshi (olso in en.wikipedia). Geagea (talk) 01:21, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

- Hello MathKnight,
- You don't have to add Flickrreview to derivative of file that already passed review. For derivative of commons files you can use derivativeFX. Makes it easier. I took the liberty to change the license. See if it is o.k. with you or modify as you wish. Geagea (talk) 23:58, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

File tagging File:Chokheli.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Chokheli.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Chokheli.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Re:Ottoman subdevisions of Caucasus
[edit]Hello, Geagea. How are you? Well, Vil is apparently an abbreviation of eyalet. I think these names are European interpretation of the Ottoman subdivisions. "Curst" is probably the corrupted Ottoman "Gurji". Regarding Abkhazia and Mingrelia, it is doubtful that these provinces ever had the status of eyalet, but I still need to consult other sources. --Kober (talk) 06:06, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Excuse me but why did you post a warning on my talk page? It's customary to at least give a reason when you do this. If you don't give a reason I shall remove it. Cheers. Delusion23 (talk) 23:11, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- I see that you have reverted all of the edits I made adding files to this category: Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries. All of the maps I added need updating with the borders of South Sudan which became independent in July. This category was created so that they may be grouped together and updated by those with the ability to do so. This forms part of the Category:Maps needing amended boundaries. I think you overreacted in giving me a level 4 vandalism warning without a stated reason. Unless there is something wrong with this category, I'll revert your reverts tomorrow. Cheers again. Delusion23 (talk) 23:23, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- See your talk page. Geagea (talk) 00:32, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, Geagea. I think there has been a misunderstanding here. The Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries is not for countries that have borders with South Sudan. It's for every image that needs updating with the fact that South Sudan and Sudan now have a border. For example, in images 1, 2, 3 and 4 you can see that the image covers the whole of Africa, not just Georgia, Afghanistan or Iran. In these images, Sudan is represented as it was before the independence of South Sudan. It is this which needs updating. Sorry that I didn't explain myself well earlier. The links to the categories didn't show up. I'll revert the reverts now. Cheers :) Delusion23 (talk) 10:01, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

With apologies
[edit]I am sincerely sorry if you consider my comments wrong on the RfA or if I have caused offence. However this is not about the infividual but about the lack of respect that seems to be shown to Commons by some wkis. Commons is a standalone project with its own community - while information from home wikis is interesting it is the experience on Commons that is relevant to a Commons RfA and it is the Commons community who are best placed to comment on that. I do hope you as a good member of the Commons community can understand my position. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:50, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yes I agree, he need experience on Commons. But not the first time of premature RfA her. It's easy to see that. Because of lack in edits her he askes users that know him to vote. Beside experience admis integrity is relevant also. Yes, he uploaded some copyvio files but did not mark them as own. Yes he asked home wiki users to vote but done it publicly and not by mail (which is not forbidden by our ruls). I realy dont think that apologies needed her (not from me anyway). And one more thing. We expect admin to know Common ruls Justifiably but not expect the same from the voters. So asking for lack of respect that seems to be shown to Commons by some wkis is wrong conclusion. I am sure that they are very respect Commons but dont know all our ruls.Geagea (talk) 09:40, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks I appreciate your thoughts. I think I should explain a little more though. I am not talking about lack of respect for our policies - it is up to us to ensure people understand. My concern is the lack of understanding of our community and how we (have to ) work together.
- I have over 200 edits on Norwegian wiki. However I doubt "no" wiki would be very happy with me placing an RfA there and asking my friends on Commons to support me. I would not consider treating "no" community in such a way and it bothers me when others treat Commons like that. I do hope you understand and do not think I am too unreasonable. Regards --Herby talk thyme 10:51, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Commons is not the same as wikipedia. I did not check it but I believe that most of Common users com from home wikipedia elswere. The users in other wikis are potential to be users in Commos, and lots of users in othere wikis consider Commons as assistant wiki and not a standalone project. Therefore, sentence like Commons is a standalone project with its own community - while information from home wikis is interesting it is the experience on Commons that is relevant to a Commons is more helpful. I dont think that user from ka.wiki will vote for me if I decide to be he.wiki admin. or users from he.wiki will vote for me if I decide to be ka.wiki admin.
- Let me tell you other concern of my. A wile ago user upload a map with a dispute term on it. users from az.wiki started DR and a lot of users vote for deleting (probebly published in the az.wiki village pump). The file did not deleted of course. In a respond made the maps maker dozens of DR's of file of Azeri people mostly pd-old or pd-ottoman. I did not have enough time in that period but saved few files. It is obvious the az.wiki fill attected. Not enough explanation by admins. Things that is obvious to is not so for others. Anyway, eventually, they grant been suspects in COM:CHECK (her). Owr hospitality was not very welcoming. Users from small wiki came to visit us but stay frustrated. More explanations of our policies needed and the Requests for checkuser was unnecessary especially in this case. Just to remember that there are people behind the signature. Geagea (talk) 03:02, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Geagea. I can give you a sample for your question. 1 and 2 related with this DR.
P.S. If you don't understand why those edits are problemetic, you can ask Iggydarsa. He understand both Hebrew and Turkish. So he knows this problem. Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 11:07, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late amswer. First regarding to the issue of Jcb voting. That is not what I ment. The argument file "in use" can be very o.k. in case when the reason to deletion is "out of project scope".
- Regarding to this DR. Mistakes can heppend but you always find users and admins that assist you. For example this DR. Admin have checked the Turkish low and find Article 31 (not 27 as you mentioned) more suitable to your case. I can also assist you if you need. Your involvement about the Turkish copyright low is welcome. Geagea (talk) 08:59, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Gia, I don't understand your comment here:
- "Well, no harm will be done in it go through DR. Thanks for paying attention." Geagea (talk) 03:56, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
By my reading of the DR, it should be deleted as the author of a 1946 file cannot have been dead for 70 years. That does not match "no harm will be done". Do I misunderstand something? Thanks, Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 21:21, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Gamarjoba, Geagea! I've noticed that the category name for the file Mtiuleti.jpg is not correct. It is not Mtiuleti, it should be Khevi, Trusso valley. A question
[edit]Hi. I have one question for you. I just uploaded an aesthetically better version of this map that I created in 2006: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Caucasus03.png I noticed that there is also a derivative version of this map translated into Mingrelian here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Caucasus_Megrelian.jpg So, I think that Mingrelian language version of the map should be also updated to reflect my recent changes in original file. Since you speak Georgian I want to ask you this: can you translate all names from map Caucasus03.png into Mingrelian so that I can upload new Mingrelian language version of this map? These names should be translated (please write Mingrelian versions here if you know them - with capital letters, if possible):
- Colchis =
- Iberia =
- Albania =
- Armenia =
- Media =
- Asia Minor =
- Mesopotamia =
- Sarmatia Asiatica =
- Black Sea =
- Caspian Sea =
- Ancient Caucasus (this one should not be with capital letters) =
I know that some of these names are already present in Mingrelian language version of the map, but I need these names in textual form, so that I can use them for creation of new map version. PANONIAN (talk) 10:18, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Copyright in Georgia
[edit]Hi Geagea, regarding your remark at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Parliament of Georgia: Thank you for researching this but I do not see how the copyright of the architecture expires after the death of the authors + 50 years as claimed here. According to article 32 of the Georgian copyright law we have pma 70 years. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 20:11, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I can not find it my self also. §24 states the same rule abot architecture, and §31/32 says 70 years. I am not an expert about the copyright in low Georgia. Maybe it will be better to ask User:Á that added that template in 2009 (he add the template to all the former Soviet Union countries). Geagea (talk) 00:29, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello, can you help me with this Byzantine 10th-century book? I've found this miniatures at one Georgian page, and can't translate the saints' names. Also can you write it down how the title "Menologion of Basil II" will be in Georgian. Thanks --Shakko (talk) 12:35, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there. The saint from Pic. 064 is Hypatius of Gangra and those from Pic. 065 are Agapia, Irene, and Chionia. Menologion of Basil II is translated into Georgian as ბასილ II-ის მენოლოგიონი (basil II-is menologioni). Hope this helps. Cheers, --Kober (talk) 18:13, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Lixauris cixe.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:Richard Budding glijdt de bal weg voor Tsjivadze. Europacup 2, seizoen 1980-1981. Tiflis (Georgië), 8 april 1981..jpg.
Georgia and Nagorno-Karabakh maps
[edit]Why have you reverted the changes that I made to the maps of Georgia and Nagorno-Karabakh? Either tell me what you don't like about them or restore them. Thanks. Travelpleb (talk) 08:05, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- Overwriting an existing file should not be done. so the file has been restored to its original version. Only when making minor, uncontroversial corrections allowed. You may upload the same file in a different name and try to convince wikipedia to use your file. For more information, see Commons:Avoid overwriting images with new uploads. - The file aren't used on Wikipedia. They're used on Wikivoyage. Issues related to the changes have been discussed on that site. Take a look at the Georgia map, there's a whole string of changes big and small. Why not revert them all?

Help about 'renaming'
[edit]Hello Geagea. One of my photos "File:Cuma Camii, Prizren (Saat Kulesinden).JPG" was renamed as "File talk:Our Lady of Ljeviš, Prizren. View from clock tower.jpg". WhiteWriter wrote, Bill william compton did renaming. Same day, user put "renaming icon" and that same day, another user had changed its original name.
Dear Geagea. This historical building was church, than it became mosque and today it is closed church. This church’s or building’s Turkish name is "Cuma Camii" since 15th century. One of its name variants. Today it is not mosque of course. But I didn't say anything about its religious situation and I didn't write on its info that this building is mosque. Because its not my aim. I just uploaded my photo and chose Turkish variant. Name “Cuma Camii” is today available name on Turkish nomenclature and also in Kosovo (Turkish and Albanian). I just had chosen a name for my photograph. Onomastics say that historical places’ names can refer to different word worlds. Especially religious places’ names are main issue for it. One language/variant use it as its thinking or background, another language/variant use it another. Please, I don't want to be in political discussion. WhiteWriter had did it before on File:Taşlı Köprü - Vıcıtırın 01.jpg > File:Vojinovića Bridge, Vučitrn historical bridge.jpg. Then it was turned back Maybe with same idea, he wants to force some names into English-Serbian but as you said before "Files should NOT be renamed only because the filename is not English and/or is not correctly capitalized".
I contacted with WhiteWriter here and here. Also I wrote short information on file talk. I just want to get my photo's original name, which was given by me. Can you do it please? Photo Balkan (talk) 19:56, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hello , Photo Balkan. I renamed it back to File:Cuma Camii, Prizren (Saat Kulesinden).jpg. Lately I am not very active her. And I am not the only nice guy her. If I am not answering you can always drop note in Administrators' noticeboard. Geagea (talk) 22:35, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe there are more nice guys here but as we talk before, you know old renaming efforts :) Also it is better to talk with known user. Thank you. Photo Balkan (talk) 8:37, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- We cannot use our own historical moment for naming images. That would be the same that i upload tons of images of Istanbul, and name all of those Constantinople. What, that is the same, right? :) Same here, this image was taken in 2010, so there are no even one reason for it to be named mosque, except POV pushing. Also, i find it very disruptive that Photo Balkan go FORUM SHOPPING with false accusations, except to try to gain consensus on one place, with all involved editors. --WhiteWriter speaks 13:44, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- WhiteWriter, you have done correctly that you did not renamed the file by yourself even though you have file mover rights but you have to read COM:NPOV: Commons is not Wikipedia, and files uploaded here do not necessarily need to comply with the Neutral point of view and No original research requirements imposed by many of the Wikipedia sites. Anyway, the hebrew article says that that building was once also mosque, which means that tha clam "misleading name: is not obvious and you have first pass through discussion in the files talk page. Geagea (talk) 17:34, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- I know that, but COM:NPOV applies to image content, and not that much to the obvious title errors. This building was the church since the creation, than it was transformed into mosque by ottoman turks, but it is church again for almost 100 years. That does not mean that it should be named like that. Identical rule should apply as for the Hagia Sofia in istanbul. It should be named per common name, and not per POV historical titles. Sure, i will not rename it my self, we should agree first. --WhiteWriter speaks

[edit]Hello Geagea!
Can you please have a look at this DR: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Nadav assulin.jpg. I doubt that this image is the uploader's own work that's why I have started this discussion. The image was published previously on the web. But the uploader does not speak English but hebrew. As such, can you please ask him if he created this image and if so, please ask him if he can upload the image in the original size from his camera. Thank you in advance. [edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Vlaqernis gvtimshoblis saxelobis eklesia.jpg.
Thank you. |

As for this revert nagi.ee has no references to Creative Commons nor never had, so the license for this image is simply misreviewd. They only imitate CC licenses in short. That's why Nagi Attribution Share Alike was created in the first place. As this image has no share-alike criterion, then simple Attribution should do. 90.190.114.172 11:33, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Ossetia in Hebrew
[edit]Can you explain why you reverted this file to early version: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ossetia01-he.png Is there any reason why you think that this early version is better than new one? PANONIAN (talk) 09:59, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
- And just to tell you that I am practically author of both file versions. User Hidro only translated into Hebrew this map of Ossetia which I made: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ossetia01.png So, I have not overwrote work of other user, but only my own work. Therefore, it would be nice that you tell me why you like older version more? I cannot see any reason why that old version is superior to new one. PANONIAN (talk) 10:05, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
- This is a derivative work of your work by other user. Please upload your work in a new file and convince the users in he.wiki to use rather then this file. This is the correct way to work. Even if it is your work and you made a new file with a significant changes/controversial/using one sided naming in disputed areas ect., it will be fair to do it in a new file and then to convince the users in wikipedia (in all languages) to use the new file. Geagea (talk) 02:02, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- I see. You object to "one sided naming in disputed areas", right? Well, you should know that I do not speak Hebrew and that I included names in new map version in accordance with translation of these names on the talk page (see: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Ossetia01-he.png ). In page history, you can see that 3 Hebrew-speaking users cooperated in this translation: [8]. I really do not care which Hebrew names should be used. So, can we reach some compromise here? You write here your desired Hebrew names of the cities and I will upload new map version with these names. Do you agree with that? If only names are problematic to you, but not colors or (more accurate) borderlines then I do not see why we cannot cooperate to make mutually acceptable new map version. PANONIAN (talk) 10:33, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Just a simple example. The city of Leningor is Akhalgori. The same as in English. You are in insiste promoting POV naming in wikipedia by using Commons. Base on the history with your work her I do not believe to your innocence saying I really do not care which Hebrew names should be used. Naming is the only thing you care. Another problem of your work is the tendency of uploading a new files after the file is already placed in the wiki articles, just as you did in this file. Geagea (talk) 00:15, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- I would appreciate that you not accuse me for "promoting POV naming in wikipedia". If I used Georgian names for these towns Ossetians could also accuse me for "promoting POV naming". I have right to use name Leningor instead of Akhalgori, as well as you have right to use name Akhalgori (and usage of both names is just equally POV or NPOV). I made that file in good faith and I am ready to discuss with you possible solutions for this problem. I will upload my original improved version of that file under another name, but file Ossetia01-he.png would still require at least some improvement since borderlines in that file are too simplified. So, I propose another compromise: I can upload new version of file Ossetia01-he.png in which I would change only borderlines and colors, but in which I would not include any city names. Is that acceptable for you? PANONIAN (talk) 15:34, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- As for my general work with files, option for upload of new file versions exists exactly to allow users to correct errors in files or to make some useful and constructive impovements in such files. I upload new versions of some files in good faith exactly to correct errors or improve their easthetics or some time to show some aditional info or detail. PANONIAN (talk) 15:43, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.
We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules. In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions. Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

Copyright status: File:Ramla tower 1910.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Ramla tower 1910.jpg.
Thank you. |

Hi. Please look at the above file, under "source". There is this link: http://www.bayadaim.org.il/2013/12/%D7%9E%D7%93%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%9A-%D7%9C%D7%90%D7%99%D7%A0%D7%A1%D7%98%D7%9C%D7%98%D7%95%D7%A8-%D7%91%D7%A2%D7%9C-%D7%9B%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%97%D7%95/ . Reverted edits
[edit]I am curious as to why you reverted every single one of my edits without a stated reason, reinstating only a few of them after the fact. Allow me to make my case for why my edits were proper:
It would seem to me that links to IDF social media resources in the photo description are not only irrelevant, but also promotional in nature and thus have no place on Wikimedia Commons; the links to the source of the image and to the IDF's Flickr account remain intact, so proper attribution is still being given.
As for my edits to some of the descriptions, there were several elements in my edits: grammatical correctness ("Gaza rockets" to "Gazan rockets", "Israel Navy" to "Israeli Navy", etc.), context ("These exclusive photos show" to "This photo shows", "Our forces" to "IDF forces", etc.), and Neutral Point of View. I am aware that NPOV is much less than important on Commons than on Wikipedia, but I note that the condition primarily applies to the media itself and that "neutrality of description should be aimed at wherever possible." For example, except when used in quotes, the word "terrorist" is nowhere to be found on w:2014_Israel–Gaza_conflict, where much of this media is likely to be used; the accepted term seems to be "militants" or simply "Hamas." Furthermore, some of the descriptions were localized or politicized, with words like "our forces" and existence of the #BringBackOurBoys hashtag only making sense when considering that the original description was from an IDF spokesperson.
Also, if it makes any difference, all of my edits were done by hand, without any use of bots, though my edits increased in speed once I realized that I was working with a limited set of captions that I could copy and paste.
Now that I have made my case in greater depth, I hope we can work to resolve our respective visions of what the descriptions on these IDF images should be. I am not trying to say that my description absolutely needs to be the one that remains, but I think the descriptions as they are now are still highly problematic. 130.132.173.138 22:30, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- There was more then removal of IDF social media resources. the text provided by IDF is the original caption of IDF and it apparently not natural point of view. Seems that you are not new in Commons (you know the ruls) so it would be easear to me to work you with the real nick behind the ip. Geagea (talk) 12:45, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have no account. I am new, but I made sure to read the rules and style guides thoroughly before editing to ensure I was doing my best to make constructive edits. I am aware there was more to some of my edits than simply removing the links in some descriptions, which is why, where appropriate, I included the phrase "made the description more neutral" in my edit summary. I would think that it would be obvious that the IDF does not generally represent a neutral point of view of the conflict in Gaza and their language deserves scrutiny. Where I did make changes to the actual wording of the descriptions, I encourage you to identify what exactly the problems were. Here are all of them:
- 1. Brother's Keeper Operation
- Original:
- On the night of June 12, three Israeli teenagers suddenly went missing in Judea and Samaria. Our forces are relentlessly searching for them, operating under the presumption that they were kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists. These exclusive photos show the efforts of the IDF soldiers in the Hebron area.
- The names of the abducted Israelis are Eyal Yifrach (age 19), Gilad Shaar (age 16), and Naftali Frenkel (age 16). Our mission is to bring them home as quickly as possible. We will do everything to #BringBackOurBoys

- 7. Rocket Strikes Child's Health Clinic
- My version:
- English: Hamas fired a rocket from Gaza on July 16, 2014 and severely damaged a children's clinic in Ashkelon.
- Your version (which matches the caption from the IDF Flickr page):
- English: Hamas terrorists fired a rocket from Gaza on July 16 and severely damaged a children's home and health clinic in Ashkelon.
- I believe my revisions are much more neutral than the original descriptions provided by the IDF. I invite you to critique these descriptions and point out instances where you think the original description was more neutral than the one I edited. In particular, note avoiding allusions to "terrorism" is the established convention for neutral language on Wikipedia for the w:Gaza–Israel_conflict. 130.132.173.138 01:52, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Also, I would request an explanation for why you think that the links to IDF social media profiles should stay on the pages where I removed only the links and left the description otherwise intact. 130.132.173.138 02:13, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- I didnt say that the links to social media should stay. I just say that your edits were more then just removing thos links. Anyway I'll answer you latter. Just want to finish what I'm doing now. Geagea (talk) 02:23, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry for the the long waiting. Removal of media sources is o.k. of course. I forward the description changes to be handle by the uploader User talk:Russavia#IDF photos. I think it is the better way. In my opinion keeping the original caption by the IDF is enough (maybe adding the words original caption by the IDF will do the job) but any decision by the uploader accept with me. Geagea (talk) 22:41, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry for the long delay in responding here. I've been on and off Commons in spurts lately. In relation to the captions, the captions as they were uploaded were pulled from the IDF descriptions. The use of "terrorist" isn't neutral, but it is the caption chosen by the IDF. All editors are able to edit the descriptions, but where necessary we can use Original caption to still reference the IDF caption. I know this was use on many Bundesarchiv images from the Nazi era. Hope this helps somewhat, even if delayed in response. Cheers, russavia (talk) 19:53, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for your message but unfortunately I will be less active in future as I mentioned in this message to Lymantria. I had a bit of time this Sunday in Canada so I marked some images but it looks like most Admins and trusted users don't mark images or mark images sporadically. I left a message on the Admin noticeboard and it looks like no one has time to mark images either. I have to work in the real world as I am a volunteer on Commons. [edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:"Jerusalem is lost" placard 1497 (511120131).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. Geagea (talk) 11:44, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Neukoln (talk) 13:02, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

- If you are the owner of the Flickr account then you can solve it easily. The files license is "CC BY-NC-SA 2.0". Change the license to "CC-by-2.0" or "CC-by-sa-2.0" and then you can upload the files. Geagea (talk) 20:10, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

problem
[edit]Hello. I am contacting you regarding your decision here, [9]. The map in question is not a free map - for it to be re-used it is required that author attribution be done properly. That was not done. I mean ,come on, "Under the following conditions: " is specified. Those conditions have not been met at all. Hence the map should be deleted due to violation of copyright. With this in mind would you kindly be able to delete the map? (Lilic (talk) 19:33, 25 October 2014 (UTC)).
- Do you mean that the source of this file is this file? If it is so it can be fixed. Geagea (talk) 22:05, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- I do not believe that it is our mission to fix other peoples mistakes. It is improper, violates copyright, and has improper source attribution. Given how the map itself is not used on any wikipedia page (as it is a relatively useless map), I feel that it is proper to delete it. May I renominate it? And if no do explain to me why it should be kept as such? (Lilic (talk) 23:57, 25 October 2014 (UTC)).
- I moved this discussion to the files talk page and invite the uploader - User:Ceha to answer. We continue there. Geagea (talk) 00:22, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- How much time does he have to answer? Why wait instead of renominating? Do you want to keep that map for some reason? Keep in mind, in eastern europe, particularly the former yugoslav republics, people have a poor sense of copyright. The case with the ceha guy is that at many dozens of his uploaded things were deleted for violating copyright. (Lilic (talk) 16:10, 26 October 2014 (UTC)).
- @Lilic: you must to understand that there is no copyright issue in this case in both cases. If the file based on this file then it is ok. Or the other option that the file is an own work of the uploader based on the source he provide. The only problem is the source that written in the file. I have no problem that you open new DR or if you want that other admin take care about it. you will have the same result. Geagea (talk) 02:40, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Geagea/common.js
[edit]Hi Geagea, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.
Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:
- You edited User:Geagea/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
- Though, that change appears to introduce 4 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
- To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Legal threats etc.
[edit]Hi Geagea, I think we both agree that this comment was not appropriate at that thread, more of a pun than a constructive contribution. I do not know and cannot verify if this has been taken in verbatim from Russavia at IRC (I do not have logs from that day) but even if this is the case, we should not blow this out of proportion. This comment is more than one week old, was already boxed, and does not deserve this additional attention unless a pattern is to be observed. But an individual comment is no pattern. In the ongoing discussion, I found this comment unnecessary and not helpful. Even if Russavia is globally banned by the WMF, we should not raise legal threats against him here at Commons. We can discuss inappropriate behaviour etc. but we should never raise any legal threats against anyone here on this project. That Russavia possibly runs into a problem with the WMF is not our problem and does not need to be discussed here. But this comment could also be understood that you personally possibly brings this issue to the courtroom or the police. I would recommend to retract this comment and this one as well. I understand that the current drama is stressful and that some of us are under attack or feel that way. But we need to be cool-headed. Re: Gaza strip
[edit]Hi Geagea, I see your point, but even if the Gaza Strip were a part of the Israeli coastal plain (it isn't according to the very same article you've provided), the way to handle that is not categorizing the Gaza Strip within a category that deals with Israel. On the other hand, I do not support editions as the one you points out. Finally, the fact that the user you mentions is a POV warrior does not translate automatically into a total reversion of his editions. Each of them has to be analyzed according to its merits and IMHO, the one I've reverted was right. Best regards --Discasto talk | contr. | es.wiki analysis 14:32, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Category:Israel
[edit]Instead of adding more images to Category:Israel can I suggest you recategorise what is currently there? There is now over 2000 images in the category. -- Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 19:01, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- You are saying that because you don't understand the way it working. When we have a batch upload of mixed content from Israel. this is the correct place for categories. Already told you that you always find files in that category. -- Geagea (talk) 07:31, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- It seems you are the one who does not understand how it works. Please read and understand Commons:Categories especially the Commons:Categories#Find_an_appropriate_category section. Files should always be placed in the most appropriate category, i.e. at the lowest rung in the hierarchy. -- Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 07:38, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- No, your uploads are not ok because you are not categorising them correctly. I will take it to AN/U since you insist. Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 08:45, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
Congratulations! Category:Israel now has well over twice the number of files in it compared to all the other country categories. See Commons:Categories_requiring_diffusion#Countries. Just in case you didn't realise I am actually being facetious. Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 06:21, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Hundreds of holiday snapshots
[edit]Hello again. On 15 February you batch uploaded hundreds of holiday snapshots from Flickr of which many have one or the other or both of the holidaying couple in them. The file names all start with "Israel 2009 by cseres". Since you are an admin can you please delete them? Thanks. Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 17:14, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- There are quite a large number of files involved but at your suggestion I will do that. Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 05:58, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

FYI
[edit]Just so you know, my 'opinion' I stated wasn't intended to take sides, or get into the ongoing argument, but using the wording '... you will be blocked', from an admin in that context, would be taken by most people as a warning that the admin intends to block the person if they repeat the behavior, not as a 'user' warning that the person's behavior might 'get' them blocked. Even if not intended that way or not, it's how it, and your comment at AN/U, read. Sorry if that was a misinterpretation, but I think most people would take it that way. Just something to consider in the future, ok? No hard feelings, hopefully. Revent (int:Talkpagelinktext) 23:30, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
- Anyway, I am happy it's clear now. and no, no bad feelings. Making opinion or criticism with assumption of a good faith are allowed. -- Geagea (talk) 23:41, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Any reason for this?
[edit]Is there any reason why you are promptly deleting files nominated for DR for all other editors except for me? Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 04:43, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- Because not all of them qualify for deletion. One of them is in use. Any way the DR are still open and any other admin will close (may take a week). -- Geagea (talk) 06:40, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- ONE of the many is in use! So leave that one and delete the rest. You should clean up the mess that you have created rather than leaving it for others. Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 16:31, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

File names
[edit]Can you fix up some of the file names of your uploaded files? I have had one set fixed but I have come across yet another set, an example of which is File:Jerusalem Jerusalem (8141537032).jpg. Having Jerusalem twice is redundant. There is a only a proposed Commons:File naming policy but please be a bit more careful with your file naming. Categorisation
[edit]Good to see that you are categorising the unidentified Israel images.
I want to make a couple of points:
- As well as categorising the files can you please add a proper description to the file info templates.
- I see that you have been adding images of locations to Category:Hevel Eylot Regional Council. Hevel Eylot Regional Council is a political entity. THe images should be added to a geographical region rather than a political entity. That is how it is done on Wikipeida and that is how it should be done here.
- Alan Liefting (int:Talkpagelinktext) 17:31, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi Geagea, I've noticed that you've removed the aforementioned category from many pictures without providing a proper location (that is, categorizing a picture under Category:Flora of Israel does not make the picture be in an identifiable location). As the main purpose of such a category is allowing wikipedians to find pictures with not identified locations and help to locate them, the category should not be removed until the proper location is added. Many thanks for your understanding --Discasto talk | contr. | es.wiki analysis 16:40, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
Do you have any idea how come this file is still considered "without source" while there is a "source" mentioned? I guess some sort of a template is missing, but couldn't figure out which one.... It was about to be deleted because of this problem... Thanks, Ldorfman (int:Talkpagelinktext) 20:56, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- Probably a mistake. -- Geagea (talk) 08:21, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- So what should we do? This was the reason for nominating this file for deletion... Ldorfman (int:Talkpagelinktext) 09:47, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- For some reason it was moved with the Category:Images without source. Maybe a problem with derivativeFX tool. Then it was copied to Category:Images of maps without source. And eventually user:1989 add template no source to files (maybe all of them) in this category. Looking the last catery, it look like it was a wronge thing to do. -- Geagea (talk) 09:59, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- So, what should we(/I) do? Ldorfman (int:Talkpagelinktext) 12:46, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- It already fixed now. You can leave message in user:1989's tals page if you wish. -- Geagea (talk) 12:51, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- I trust you. If it is fixed, it won't be deleted. Too bad it still belongs to the category "Images of maps without source". Ldorfman (int:Talkpagelinktext) 13:07, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
