Kuemper Catholic Schools’ 2023 buddy program matching high school and elementary school students for special activities during the school year kicked off on the Friday of homecoming week. Students also get together for Catholic Schools Week, holidays and other special occasions. The program matches up seniors with third graders, juniors with second graders, sophomores with first graders and freshmen with kindergartners. First grade teacher Mary Lawler says, “The buddy program is a way for our elementary students to meet and spend time with our high school students. The kids get to do a fun activity with their buddy, the ‘wave’ at the (St. Anthony Regional) Cancer Center (above), and usually play a game or two. Both the high school students and our young elementary students look forward to their buddy time.”
