A local business has changed hands between two longtime coworkers: Wyatt Deist of Deist Autoworks purchased Resurrection Rides at the beginning of the year to run his own business, Deist Autoworks, out of the shop.
Deist Autoworks officially opened for business Jan. 1 of this year. The business focuses on auto body and collision repair, hail damage, paint corrections and detailing.
“Anything really auto body related, that’s what I’m pretty much doing,” Deist said.
He began working for Joe Stitz, previous owner of Resurrection Rides, in 2017, after graduating from Des Moines Area Community College studying auto body repair.
Deist started renting half the space for his own business practices in 2024. He said Resurrection Rides was doing restorative work, while he continued doing collision repair.
“I had buddies and friends and family who were always hitting something, so I was kind of doing that on the side of helping Joe with the restoration work,” he said. “And then it kind of almost just turned into a full time gig.”
Deist said he asked Stitz about renting half the building from him to see how running his own business would go.
“That sparked into me purchasing the whole building,” he said.
