The diclonius, otherwise known as a two-horned human, are mutants of the human species, may well be the next step in human evolution. The diclonius have horns and strong telekinetic powers represented by "arms". However with this great power, they can easily destroy the human race. Fearful of their power, humans quarantined the diclonius into secret research facilities to study. However, in a freak accident, a enraged female diclonius escaped, killing many guards in the process. Interesting enough, the female escapee appears to have suffered amnesia after her escape and floated to Yuigahama of Kamakura city. There, she meets two people named Kouta and Yuka, who name the female diclonius "Nyuu", and decide that they all should live together.
It rarely does much good to argue back and forth over the merits of this/that anime - tempting as it may be, especially when some mentally arthritic Dragonball Z otaku has just dissed your favorite anime. Seems folks either love ELFEN LIED or they hate it. (And tell the truth, I'd almost rather accept pronouncements of ill-regard and loathing rather than hear some zip head say, "Ehh -- it didn't really engage me. I just couldn't get into it. The plot was too slow and I guess I really didn't understand it.") At least the latter is honest and up front with his bullshit about being clueless.
On the other hand, there are those who just can't pass up the opportunity to let everyone know how horrible is the anime in question, but they'll also show those of you who liked it why you lack the intellectual and aesthetic tools necessary to contemplate (let alone comprehend) the sublimity of Japanese Anime. And yet, I've seen some truly masterful (albeit gruesome) displays of Anime Autopsy, complete with a running soliloquy reminding all in attendance of the rare privilege it is theirs to enjoy as the expert attendant explains with a typical vitriolic ideological bias that prevents you, poor devil, from ever understanding that anime is an art form, goddammit! And how "OSAMU TEZUKA and AKIRA KUROSAWA are gods!!!. But no you go ahead and watch your Pokemon and Yu gi oh! and Naruto... oh and watch it in those horrible English dubs on Adult Swim right after Adventure Time and ... and .... And don't get me started on American cartoons, you losers! I wrote my goddam doctorate on anime for my Ph.D. in Asian Studies, don't you know. Unfortunately, this university has only one Asian on its staff -- Hidehiko KADOTA 門田 英彦 -- and he teaches Russian Literature (with some origami on the side) and despises all electronic media entertainment anyway. So he was no help and couldn't even define moe. (He also has a hair-lip, and made a pass at me once. But I digress...)
"The opening shot of ELFEN LIED showed promise, being one of the most compelling and justified uses of limb dismemberment, decapitation, disembowelment -- all carried out by a totally nude young woman obviously tying to make her escape from some super-military installation, and pursued and surrounded by inexhaustible squads of soldiers and private police. So, she is obviously dangerous, able to slice men in half from 20 meters away with an invisible weapon. What makes her so dangerous? (And hot?)
"I don't know. I had to meet my mother for grocery shopping and just never bothered to finish watching it. The shading on some of characters disappointed me, the facility was too too goverment looking, and the director's previous credits didn't impress me. Anyway, I'm tired and all of you suck anyway."
DR SLEEP: As for me, ELFEN LIED is in my top ten animes. Thanks for indulging my impression of a typical super otaku. Really, these folks would be better off moving to France and doing post-modern critiques of manga and deconstructing DEATH NOTE.
Heh, well... I guess violence is good for stress, no?
...
I'll probably change my avatar to her, too. Maybe. It kinda depends what mood I'm in... right now I'm more than a little addicted to Umineko no Naku Koro ni.
miva2: Completely agree with you! And she is also my favourite character of all anime and I think no one can ever beat her

i used lucy's eye as avatar on many forums, still do but am not so active on those where i use her eye anymore, maybe i should use it here too >3

i don't know why, just thought it would be funny...
probably cause i need some violence after exams
This show... kinda changed my life.
It is indeed my favorite anime and something I'm going to treasure for ages to come.
I mean, really, how much more perfection could anyone possibly fit into 13 episodes?
Correct english translation is "Elven" man,not Elfen. And how come there is so few people in this club? Elfen Lied is definately one of the best animes I have ever seen!!
It's 'anime' not 'animes'. Someone schooling other's about translations and stuff should know that.
