YURI REVIEW.

You came to check out this series because of Shoujo-ai tag? Then only relevant episodes are 1&2. Aimie (Amy) and Naomi, shown on the poster, are childhood friends and roommates. They both like Bolt very much, but in a friendly way, so fear not.

SPOILER WARNING!

Those are noir-like episodes, so the relationship doesn't end well. Naomi dies and Amy is forever alone. Full summary of what happens can easily be found though ANN.


Overall this is a collection of stories about wandering mercenary with a superpower, which lets him eat metal and then project items from his right hand. It also limits his speech to about 1 word a minute. Or it's just his character trait. He's your usual invincible stoic rolling weed.

I read the whole manga (scanlation) before I even heard of the anime serie.

The manga is great and I recommand it to all manga fans, even if the scanlation is not around anymore (was licenced, I think).

This is to say that I had quite an expectation when I first heard of the anime. The problem is that the anime is nowhere as good as the manga. Where you have good characters that are allowed to evolve in the manga, you have a lame excuse of a story in the anime and pale characters by comparison.

I was more than a little annoyed at the serie and didn't even think it worth burning.

I wouldn't recommand it to anyone. Read the manga!

The result of Eatman '98 is an action anime with an original main character and the animation is anime-style, but it lacks a good story, like most cartoons.

The animation is pretty decent. The regular stuff, which can't be criticized in any way. It does look a bit aged, but I might be thinking that because of the rips I saw.
Same goes for the sound, which doesn't have any bad points, nor any good ones. Just the regular stuff again.

The story of Eatman is quite simple, and it doesn't really catch you with a good plot or anything. It's about a gunman for hire and we've all seen those kind of anime before. Nothing fancy, nothing great - except if you like action/fighting. But this anime is a little bit different from the regular stuff.
The main character is the 'eatman', which means he can eat everything which is from metal. Screws, guns, bullets, it means nothing but a snack to him. Kind of funny, and every now and then it is quite funny to see as well.
The episodes are told in a 1-or-2-ep-per-story, which means the stories lack depth, but have enough action to satisfy you. If you've ever seen Cowboy Bebop, then you'll know how these kind of episodes are 'told', except with less plot. Some characters do return in later episodes though.

The characters don't really have anything good. They're nice and all, but have almost no depth, due to the story being limited to 1 or 2 episodes which they appear in. I do have to add a point for the main character, since he's quite original.

Is this a fun anime? No. Is it good? Not really. Is it watchable? Definitely.
It's not bad, but it lacks too much to have an interesting story. But if you like an action anime without too much plot, then you might have some hours to enjoy yourself with.
