absurdist humour
Surreal humour is a form of humour predicated on deliberate violations of causal reasoning, producing events and behaviours that are obviously illogical. Constructions of surreal humour tend to involve bizarre juxtapositions, non-sequiturs, irrational or absurd situations, and expressions of nonsense. The humour arises from a subversion of audience`s expectations, so that amusement is founded on unpredictability. Its appeal stems from the situation being exceedingly ridiculous or unlikely.
,
absurdly powerful student council
A student council is a student-managed body inside a school which engages in administrative affairs, usually working in a partnership with management, staff and parents. In real life, a student council holds no actual power, but in many anime/manga, they are allowed to overrule nearly everyone else.
,
action
Action anime usually involve a fairly straightforward story of good guys versus bad guys, where most disputes are resolved by using physical force. It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting.
,
ass-kicking girls
The female characters in the anime are very proficient in some form of martial arts, swordplay, or gunfights. They may also have super powers.
,
breathing in space
Find yourself in space without an oxygen tank? Not a problem! Breathing in the vacuum of space is just as easy as breathing on Earth, especially if you are a superhero or somehow able to leave the atmosphere under your own power.
,
calling your attacks
If you can do something more impressive than just throw a punch, your attack(s) must have an equally impressive name. More than that, you have to call it out as you launch the attack. It doesn`t matter if it`s a martial arts move, a magical spell or your secret superweapon, if you can`t say its name, it just isn`t nearly as cool or effective.
,
charismatic
Charisma is a compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others.
,
clever
A clever or smart person is generally understood as having broad knowledge and the sharpness of mind required to put that knowledge to good use, especially when applying rational thought to long-reaching decisions, with the broad knowledge leaning more on the smart side and the sharp mind on the clever side. Unlike a genius, the clever person may be skilled, but only mundanely so, and in contrast to a cunning person, a clever person is not characterized by being sly or apt at surreptitiousness.
,
comedy
Anime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience. Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy.
,
fantasy
Imaginative or fanciful work, especially one dealing with supernatural elements and themes.
,
fighting
For some reason or other one faction has to take it out on some opponent via fight or battle. Typical examples of this are all the anime with "endless pointless fighting" tag.
,
genius
A genius is someone possessing extraordinary intelligence or skill, normally to a degree associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight, and especially when demonstrated through a creative or original work in a field of human knowledge. Such ability is well beyond the realm of an ordinarily clever person, who instead applies a sharp mind to mundane levels of skill.
,
graduation
Graduation is the action of receiving or conferring an academic degree or the ceremony that is sometimes associated, where students become graduates.
,
manipulative
Enjoy controlling people without them knowing, usually tricking people into doing stuff for them
,
manly
Masculinity is possessing qualities or characteristics considered typical of or appropriate to a man. Typical characteristics associated with masculinity are: courage, a strong physique, competitive, strong willed, and a sense of honor. Very important for being considered masculine however is the ability to inspire respect from your fellow brethren and/or being perceived as a virile man by the opposite sex.
,
passionate
Passionate or sometimes hot-blooded describes people having, compelled by, or ruled by intense emotion or strong feeling. They give their all in absolutely everything they do, regardless of the task. Using the power of hard work and guts as well as their determination, they throw themselves headfirst into the worst situations imaginable and come out on top through sheer force of will, and often have a strong tendency to go beyond the impossible.
,
rivalry
Quite broadly used term describing a conflict, contest, struggle, or opposition of some sort. Typical examples: The mostly comedic rivalry for the love of a protagonist in a harem anime (love polygon), the more "mindless" battles between wannabe delinquents in a school fighting anime, or the struggle between good & evil in an epic conflict for world domination.
,
satire
In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement. Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon. (Wikipedia)
,
school rivalry
Simple description for a "School vs School in all-out physical-combat" series. No matter how geographically close or far apart the schools are, students from different schools are enemies by default and are likely to engage in physical fights on sight (except on the occasion that certain schools form pacts of alliance or peace).
,
seinen
Seinen, literally "young man", is one of the main demographic classifications applied to manga, and, by extension, to anime, especially manga-based ones. As the name implies, seinen works are marketed primarily to an audience of young men; the age range commonly understood to be the target of such works goes roughly from 17 to somewhere in the 40s.
,
slapstick
Slapstick humour is generally recognized by lots of physical abuse, horseplay and practical jokes. Also often seen are impossible situations, using sounds to illustrate impossible stunts that aren`t shown on-screen and to create tension for audience anticipation.
,
some weird shit goin` on
Scenes of this show point to insanely strange events which seem to be taking place; throughout its episodes, the show may or may not explain what is going on. Either way, many viewers will find that a succinct and accurate way to describe the show is "WTF?", and the show`s explanations (or lack thereof) to the events will often be subject of heated debate.
,
space
The final frontier.
,
super power
Be it an ancient Greek Heracles, a cybernetic muscle-man, or a fourteen year-old girl in a mini-skirted sailor suit. As long as they have super powers, they`re in the show.
,
swordplay
The act or art of using a sword or similar weapon skillfully.
,
symbolism
Representation of a more complex concept by a simple thing. Like a red flower for love or a flag for a nation.
,
wealthy
Somebody in possesion of wealth, usually a lot of money.
