About Us
YFMF began as an idea inspired by those that have found ways to make something out of nothing. Founder, Maya Neal, competed in the 2016 African Championships in Durban, South Africa where she noticed some high level athletes competing with a lack of adequate equipment and footwear. Something had to be done. In 2017, she set out to repurpose new and gently used track spikes and soccer cleats by donating to individuals and organizations in need. That has evolved into the provision of sporting infrastructure, equipment, and wellness services for youth in marginalized communities.
We believe that providing equitable access and opportunity to marginalized youth at the grassroots level has the power to help them realize their potential on and off the pitch.
This journey has been made possible by the generous spirit and support shown by athletes, coaches, universities, and like-minded individuals.
We move together!
Our Mission
Our mission is to create equitable access and opportunity in football for marginalized youth.
Grassroots football (soccer) continues to face a lack of diversity and inclusivity due to the lack of safe playing spaces and cost of equipment. The solution to overcoming these barriers and providing greater opportunity for youth in underserved communities lies in the hands of those willing and able to level the playing field.
