From Proto-Finnic *antadak, from Proto-Uralic *ëmta- / *amta-.^[1] Cognate with Estonian andma, Northern Sami vuovdit (“to sell”), Erzya андомс (andoms, “to feed”), Komi-Zyrian уд (ud) and Hungarian ad.

Verb

antaa

1. (transitive) to give; to allow; to present, donate [with allative ‘to’]

   Synonym: suoda (usually literary)

   Antonym: ottaa (“to take”)

2. to let, allow, permit [with genitive and first infinitive]
