PCGamingWiki ID
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work
Motivation
[edit]Currently there are 29,000 game articles in PCGamingWiki. 6470 articles (a portion of those articles are controllers and developers, so let's say 5000) have associated English Wikipedia articles, and more than 7000 articles have associated Steam AppIDs (only 3700 video games on Wikidata have the Steam AppID property (Steam application ID (P1733)), so there's a lot of data that's missing here). We'd be able to share data like Steam application ID (P1733), GOG application ID (P2725), Wine AppDB ID (P600), etc. between PCGW and Wikidata.
This is my first proposal for a Wikidata property, please correct me if I've done anything incorrectly :) Nicereddy (talk) 18:21, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

- Support Seems very useful, why not have the scope cover more than just video games though? It seems a good ID for stuff like developers and game engines too. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 21:29, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- The main reason I excluded other domains is because the Games data is the most plentiful, accurate, and useful. Developers, publishers, and engines can be pretty useful though, I agree, and they're pretty accurate as far as I'm aware. --Nicereddy (talk) 23:52, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose Is adding yet another ID necessary? They have a Steam App ID redirect script https://pcgamingwiki.com/api/appid.php?appid=<
api_id>
. Their Steam IDs to WP articles was my source for seeding Steam application ID (P1733) (which failing to blossom). Dispenser (talk) 04:44, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- However, not every single PC game is released on Steam. There's a lot of exclusive releases on other DRM platforms like Origin or Uplay, as well as older games that only ever got retail releases. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 14:40, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- Can we consider consensus reached here so we can set the status to ready and get the property moved toward creation? Nicereddy (talk) 19:02, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Nicereddy: sure, hopefully it should help populate Steam application ID (P1733) too. − Pintoch (talk) 19:41, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
