- Comment I don't understand how this is different from Wikidata:Property proposal/vPlants ID as it appears to be the same formatter URL. Can you please clarify the difference? Thanks --Dhx1 (talk) 02:23, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
- Dhx1 The site appears to be linking to the vPlants database, for the subset of plants in that database that are included in A Utah Flora. I think having this as a separate property, even thought it links to vPlants, could be useful because it would provide a way to identify Utah plants specifically. - Oppose There is nothing particularly relevant to Utah at vPlants. The print field guide is also represented online at the Intermountain Region Herbarium Network (I would expect IRHN to be more likely to have Utah relevant information). The lists at vPlants and IRHN are almost completely identical (I couldn't spot any differences, but vPlants reports 3958 total taxa to IRHN with 3956), and the identifiers for taxa are apparently the same on both sites. I think the IDs are likely unique to Symbiota (Q113639939). I'd support a property for Symbiota IDs, but I'm not sure if there is a way to access Symbiota information that is agnostic to Symbiota's system of portals, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Wikidata already has multiple properties for different Symbiota portals. - Question Are the identifiers for vPlants and Utah Flora different even though they resolve to the same place? Would users ever search using for A Utah Flora identifiers without knowing the formatter URL and corresponding vPlants identifier? If people might use these identifiers, it seems to me they would be worthwhile to add. --Crystal Clements, University of Washington Libraries (talk) 19:09, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
