the best advice i have for people getting into knitting/crochet or anyone who struggles with written patterns is to TRANSLATE THE PATTERN TO ENGLISH. this helps so much to learn how to read patterns + all the lingo associated with them for example: ch4, sl st to beg to form loop 1: ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 2dc in loop, *ch3, 3dc* 3 times, sl st to 2nd beg ch

written out fully, this becomes: chain four, slip stitch to the first chain to form a loop 1: chain two (counts as first double crochet), two double crochet, *chain three, three double crochet), slip stitch to beginning chain to end round

sure it's longer and it takes some time to write out a whole pattern in this way, but it's SO HELPFUL!!

okay one more thing. i received from somewhere the will to finish projects that were UFOs (unfinished objects) for months, and finished The Cardigan

i had scrap leftover from my Mudkip amigurumi, so naturally I made a whole ass jacket

I FINISHED IT!!

the thing i lovingly refer to as my 6 month star blanket is finally finished, and i think she's gorgeous. the free pattern for this blanket and many many others is by Betty McKnit. I can definitely see myself making another one of her patterns, it was so easy to understand and turned out *chef's kiss*

the blanket is 46 inches across and 55 from point to point
