Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We use Veeam Backup & Replication to back up our Virtual Server infrastructure on-premises and also use it to back up to the cloud for disaster recovery. We need the ability to be able to restore both files and also application items like SQL databases. We have up to 3 copies of every server in different locations and Veeam Backup & Replication gives us the option to do this easily. We are currently using the cloud backup as strictly a DR option as we have so many failovers on-premesis.

Pros

  • Instant recovery option
  • Quickly add and remove VMs
  • Connects to failover infrastructure

Cons

  • It doesn't handle running more than 4 tasks at once
  • It is a slow application to use and log into
  • When removing a portable hard drive used for a restore the terminology is a bit confusing
  • Virtualized workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
19 virtual servers are protected on site and are duplicated to another server in a different location in the building. We also back up using hard drives weekly on a rotating basis and monthly and they are stored offsite. We back up 12 vital servers to a cloud hosted site as a DRP.
  • It gives us the security that we can have business continuity if something fails
  • It is hard to quantify the ROI but I am sure it is reasonable
I was not here before we moved to Veeam Backup & Replication so I cannot really comment. We changed from the per socket pricing to the current platform mainly for future proofing our infrastructure. As more SAAS suppliers move from server based operation to cloud, we will require less servers so the per server licensing will work out better for us.
We have used the cloud for DR for the last 2 years and thankfully have never had to use it but it is reassuring that it is there. The only thing we would like for it to have the ability to be an alternative to the physical backup on premisis.
No, we have not used that function as yet. Perhaps if it was explained to us how to use it we could make use of it.
We use Datto to backup our Microsoft 365 data for about 6 months but they proved to be not suitable for us. We have since switched to KeepIt Cloud Backup and have no complaints about its operation. We have had to do several restaores and it was very simple to perform

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

We found Veeam Backup & Replication to be great for backing up virtual servers and that is the only use we have had for it. From what I have seen in my experience, the live restore function doesn't seem to work on a VM more than 4TB in size. It gets to the 4TB and fails every time.
