Lord Robert William Orlando Manners was born on 4 February 1870.2 He was the son of John James Robert Manners, 7th Duke of Rutland and Janetta Hughan.2 He married Mildred Mary Buckworth, daughter of Reverend Charles Phelips Buckworth, on 15 November 1902.2 He died on 11 September 1917 at age 47 at Passchendaele, Belgium, killed in action.3 He was buried at The Huts Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.3
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Major in the King's Royal Rifle Corps.2 He fought in the Boer War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He fought in the Isazai Expedition.2 He gained the rank of Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in the 10th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.1

Mildred Mary Buckworth was the daughter of Reverend Charles Phelips Buckworth.2 She married, secondly, Lt.-Col. Lord Robert William Orlando Manners, son of John James Robert Manners, 7th Duke of Rutland and Janetta Hughan, on 15 November 1902.2 She married, firstly, Major Henry Edward Riddell, son of Reverend John Charles Riddell and Frances Sophia Cholmondeley, on 5 November 1888.2 She died on 19 January 1934.2
From 5 November 1888, her married name became Riddell. Her married name became Manners. She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1920.2
