Sir John Wemyss of Wemyss was the son of Sir David Wemyss of Wemyss and Katherine Sinclair.2 He married by contract, firstly, Margaret Otterburn, daughter of Sir Adam Otterburn of Redhall, on 20 October 1534.2 He and Margaret Otterburn were divorced in 1556.2 He married, secondly, Janet Trail, daughter of Alexander Trail of Blebo, circa 21 February 1557/58.2 He died circa 25 January 1571/72.
