Charles Hamilton, 5th Earl of Abercorn1

     Charles Hamilton, 5th Earl of Abercorn was born between 1660 and 1668.2 He was the son of George Hamilton, 4th Lord Hamilton, Baron of Strabane and Elizabeth Fagan.1 He married Catharine Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, Lord Paisley and Catherine Lenthall, after 1686.2 He died in June 1701 at Strabane, IrelandG, without survivng issue.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 16 May 1704.2
     He succeeded as the 5th Lord Abercorn, co. Linlithgow [S., 1603] in August 1691. He succeeded as the 5th Lord Paisley, co. Renfrew [S., 1587] in August 1691. He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Abercorn [S., 1606] in August 1691.2 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Paisley, Hamilton, Mountcashell and Kirkpatrick [S., 1606] in August 1691. He succeeded as the 6th Lord Hamilton, Baron of Strabane, co. Tyrone [I., 1617] on 24 May 1692, after obtaining by Royal Letters a reversal of the attainder of his brother, Claud.1 On 16 July 1697 he was tried for the murder of Mr. Prior of Burford, and was acquitted.2 His last will was dated 7 August 1697.3

     Catharine Hamilton was born circa 1653.1 She was the daughter of James Hamilton, Lord Paisley and Catherine Lenthall.1 She married, firstly, William Lenthall, son of Sir John Lenthall, before 1686.1 She married, secondly, Charles Hamilton, 5th Earl of Abercorn, son of George Hamilton, 4th Lord Hamilton, Baron of Strabane and Elizabeth Fagan, after 1686.1 She died on 24 May 1723 at Pall Mall, St. James's, London, EnglandG.1 She was buried at Henry VII's Chapel, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 Her will (dated 17 Aug 1722) was proven (by probate) on 24 May 1723.1

     From 1661, her married name became Hamilton. She was Maid of Honour to Mary, Princess of Orange.2

     Sir Robert Hannay of Mochrum, 1st Bt. was born circa 1598.2 He was the son of Alexander Hannay of Sorbie.3 He married Jane Stewart.1 He died on 8 January 1657/58 at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.4,1 He was buried on 24 January 1657/58 at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.4 He died intestate and his estate was administered to his son, Sir Robert Hannay on 29 November 1658.4
     He held the office of Clerk of the Nichells [Ireland] between 19 October 1629 and 30 May 1639.4 He was created 1st Baronet Hannay, of Mochrum, co. Kirkcudbright [Nova Scotia] on 31 March 1630, with a special remainder to his heirs male.4
