One interesting type of relationship that appears in anime is the relationship between fathers and sons. While all parent-child pairs have the potential to be interesting, there's something uniquely cool about fathers and sons who are both super powerful and could potentially kick butt together.

Not all of these father-son pairs actually fought alongside each other - in fact, some like Baki and Yujiro of Baki The Grappler found themselves on opposite sides of a conflict. Others, like Luffy and Dragon from One Piece, never actually met, but could conceivably make an incredible team. But some of the strongest father-son duos actually did take on enemies in tandem - one of the best moments of Naruto was when Naruto goes to fight alongside his revived father during the Fourth Ninja War.

Which warrior sets do you find the most compelling? Let the world know by voting them up.

Minato Namikaze & Naruto Uzumaki - 'Naruto'

Naruto Uzumaki and his father Minato Namikaze aren't actually alive on the same timeline, since Minato sacrifices his life to protect Naruto and the village of Konoha when Naruto is only a baby. But the two of them do get a chance to fight together after Naruto almost loses himself to the Nine Tailed Fox's overwhelming chakra, and winds up meeting his a version of his father who helps him get the beast under control and harness its power to defeat Pain. They also fight together when Minato is reincarnated via Edo Tensei during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Had they been able to fight together throughout their lives, they'd have been an unstoppable duo.

    Goku & Gohan - 'Dragon Ball Z'

Goku is obviously one of the most powerful people in the anime universe, but his son Gohan is no slouch either. In fact, he's able to match Goku's prowess at the tender age of 10. His accelerated growth is supposedly the result of his half-Saiyan status, which apparently makes him stronger than full Saiyans. Both of them are able to harness their ki and launch it at opponents, utilize multiple powerup transformations, and boast super speed, super strength, and super endurance.

Gohan is always willing to fight when it comes to saving the world, but unlike his father he doesn't particularly enjoy fighting and would prefer to maintain a peaceful lifestyle when possible.

Igneel & Natsu - 'Fairy Tail'

After being brought back to life by his brother Zeref, Natsu ended up in the care of Igneel, The Fire Dragon King. He could have destroyed Natsu, but because he felt affectionate towards him, he decided to raise him as his own and grant him some serious magic potential. Though separated for a long time, the two of them do team up against Acnologia. Igneel told Natsu not to come help him with that particular fight, but Natsu has never listened to anyone for as long as he's' been alive, so he joined his father for the epic final fight. Tragically, Igneel doesn't survive the battle, but he has a chance to have a final heart-to-heart with his son before he takes his final breath.

    Isshin & Ichigo - 'Bleach'

Isshin Kurosaki isn't just a father of three - he's also the former captain of Gotei 13's 10th Division. His laid back, perverted personality doesn't make it obvious, but he's a pretty formidable Shinigami - you do not to want to get in the way of Zanpakutō, which involves flame-based attacks. He isn't always able to go full throttle due to injuries, and he doesn't take on as many responsibilities as he used to, but the dude can still fight.

Meanwhile, his son Ichigo is, well, Ichigo. His powers are too numerous to really get into here - he's one of the strongest characters in the whole series, and that's putting it mildly. Let's just say that Isshin doesn't really have anything to worry about when it comes to his son's ability to kick butt.

Dragon & Luffy - 'One Piece'

Monkey D. Dragon is the head of the Revolutionary Army, and he's also Luffy's dad. That doesn't mean that the two of them have a relationship. They don't. Actually, Luffy's never even met his father, and he has very little interest in ever doing so. Dragon does follow his sons' exploits, and is pretty impressed with what he sees. Were the two of them to ever team up, they would be a dangerous combination - though exactly what their battle tactics would involve is hard to say, since Dragon's powers are still shrouded in mystery - all that's known is that he's strong enough to be considered the 'world's worst criminal.' Meanwhile, Luffy has a wide range of abilities, ranging from those bestowed by his Gum-Gum fruit to his use of Haki.

Endeavor & Shoto - 'My Hero Academia'

Endeavor and his son Shoto don't have a good relationship - actually, it's terrible. This is entirely Endeavor's fault - he raised Shoto with almost zero consideration for his emotional or physical safety. He conceived him in an illegal quirk marriage in the hopes of creating a child whose powers would exceed his own, then proceeded to isolate him from his siblings, physically abuse him, and more.

Currently, Endeavor is trying to repair his relationship with Shoto, and hopes to be able to give him real instruction in the art of heroism. Shoto, for his part, hasn't fully forgiven his dad, but is learning about how to control the the fire-based parts of his quirk and how to go about heroing in general for his own sake.

Van Hoenheim & Edward - 'FMA: Brotherhood'

Edward Elric and his father Van Hoenheim spend most of the series estranged from one another - Van Hoenheim left when Edward was a small child, then came back to discover that not only had their mother passed away, but his kids had tried to revive her using alchemy, lost their bodies and/or limbs, and burned their former house down for the symbolism. It took a while for the two of them to be able to re-establish anything that resembled a familial relationship, but once they did, they fought alongside each other to take down Father and his homunculi henchmen.

Both of them use alchemy, although Van Hoenheim's alchemy is far less limited because he's a human Philosopher's stone, while Edward is just a human who is very good at alchemy.

Shiro Fujimoto & Yukio Okumura - 'Blue Exorcist'

Shiro Fujimoto is the reason why the twin sons of Satan himself dedicate themselves to exorcising demons - he adopted them and raised them as his own. Aside from food and shelter, he also taught Yukio the art of exorcism, which he practiced as a Paladin of the True Cross Order. Rin, the protagonist, wasn't seen as being ready for that kind of training prior to Shiro's demise - Yukio was always the more responsible one. While Yukio never surpasses Shiro during Shiro's lifetime, he does acquire a wide range of abilities including gunslinging, fire resistance, and deep medical knowledge.

Kenny & Levi - 'Attack On Titan'

Kenny & Levi - 'Attack On Titan'

Kenny is technically Levi's uncle, and his efficacy as a parent is questionable: yes, he rescued him from starvation after finding him next to his late mother, but he only raised him to adolescence, and he didn't really form any sort of meaningful familial bond with him.

What he did do, though, was teach him how to fight. Whether it was with a knife or with his fists, Kenny made sure he would always be able to defend himself. The two of them would eventually clash when Kenny allied himself with the Survey Corps' enemies - their aerial fight scene is actually one of the best parts of the show.

Judge Vinsmoke & Sanji - 'One Piece'

It's not exactly surprisng that Sanji hates his father - his father let his brothers beat the living hell out of him, all because he lacked the genetic enhancements his father attempted to bestow on him. Once he left home, his father tried to force him to marry into the Big Mom Pirate family for the purposes of an alliance. Even after all of that, Sanji still saves' his family's lives when they're about to be executed.

Due to their troubled history, the two are almost never anywhere close to being allies. However, if they didn't have such a fraught relationship, they could have been formidable team. Sanji manages to stand alongside the other members of the Straw Hat Crew despite not having a Devil Fruit, relying only on his physical strength and on Haki. Judge boasts similar fighting prowess, and also uses technological enhancements to help him electrocute his foes.

Yujiro & Baki - 'Baki The Grappler'

Yujiro & Baki - 'Baki The Grappler'

Baki and his father Yujiro start the series on pretty much the worst terms possible - Baki absolutely despises his dad, and for good reason. Yujiro took his wife's life - his wife being Baki's mother. Baki not only desires revenge, he also wants to defeat him in battle. That's because Yujiro is known as the 'strongest man alive', a title that Baki wants for himself.

Yujiro is so durable that he's impervious to bullets, lightning, fire, and missle strikes - meanwhile he's strong enough to make a building tremble just by flexing his muscles. The "demon face" on his back greatly amplifies his strength. After some serious training, Baki is eventually able to match his father's strength, becoming pretty much the only one in the world who's strong enough to do any damage whatsoever.

Thors & Thorfinn - 'Vinland Saga'

Thors & Thorfinn - 'Vinland Saga'

When Thorfinn was a little boy, he watched thousands of people pump his father full of arrows while he refused to raise a hand to defend himself. He did this not because he was weak, but because he had spent a lifetime as one of the most terrifying Viking warriors in the world, and has since taken a vow of pacifism. However, his son didn't understand why he refused to fight, and was filled with rage, both at his father for refusing to fight, and at the people who actually destroyed him. At first, Thorfinn is too weak and inexperienced to get the revenge he craves, but with training he becomes as terrifying a warrior as his father once was.

King Cold & Frieza - 'Dragon Ball Z'

Frieza is one of the most notable villains in the world of DBZ, but his father, King Cold, is nothing to sneeze at either - pun intended. Anyway, the two of them work together to buy and sell planets, with neither one of them having the slightest bit of mercy for the people whose lives they destroy in the process. The two of them share a wide variety of abilities common to their species, such as the ability to survive in a vacuum, a variety of ki-based attacks, and so on. The biggest difference is that while Frieza is seen transforming more than once, King Cold sticks to a single form - probably because he isn't as prominent a character as Frieza is.

Kyo & Kazuma - 'Fruits Basket'

Kazuma Sohma runs a dojo, so when he adopts Kyo from his abusive biological father, he immediately gets the kid involved in martial arts. It takes a lot of time and training, including months spent living in the woods under a waterfall, but Kyo eventually becomes a fighter whose skills are on par with his dad's. While Kazuma uses his fighting prowess to train the students who come to the dojo, Kyo mostly uses it to challenge Yuki to impromptu battles and destroy Shigure's house.

    Ginoza & Masaoka - 'Psycho-Pass'

Nobuchika Ginoza and his father Tomomi Masaoka are fellow members of Public Safety Bureau, an organization that eliminates people who have been labeled 'latent criminals' by the complex and flawed Sybil System. Though they both work for the same organization and are equally handy with a Dominator gun, the two of them aren't equal - Masaoka is a latent criminal himself, which means that he must work as an Enforcer - basically, the Public Safety Bureau's low-ranking grunt. Ginoza is disgusted by his father's designation, but still cares about him despite that.

Until Masaoka's demise at the end of the series, the two of them do an upstanding job tracking and defeating latent criminals - but in the meantime, Masaoka tries to get his son to see the inherent flaws in the system they serve.
