Kathy Griffin's 'Incredibly Generous' Move in Support of Stormy Daniels

Kathy Griffin has donated $30,000 to a fundraiser for Stormy Daniels to help her relocate after receiving death threats.

The comedian urged others to donate to the crowdfunding campaign, which has a $1.25 million target, so the former adult film star can move home with her family and pets, including horses. Daniels claimed to have been "doxxed"— the act of revealing a person's information such as addresses and phone numbers online— following her testimony in former President Donald Trump's hush money trial.

In May, a jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents to misappropriate his 2016 presidential campaign funds in order to buy Daniels' silence over their alleged 2006 affair.

Daniels testified during the trial in New York and later said her address was leaked online after "the defense showed my address on a screen to the courtroom while I was testifying. This resulted in me being doxxed almost immediately," she wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Daniels told Newsweek she had been reluctant to crowdfund, but it was necessary after receiving violent threats and also needs money to repay the legal fees she spent on testifying in the trial.

"For years people have been trying to convince me to set up a way to contribute money to help with legal costs but I resisted. I didn't want to be accused of 'begging for money' or being desperate or lazy because despite what trolls online want to believe, I have a successful career as a TV host (For the Love of DILFS) and writer/director," Daniels said pointing to her work on the mainstream series called Woke Up Late and explained she also earns income from a "full schedule of speaking and comedy appearances this summer."

Daniels eventually relented and allowed a friend to setup the GoFundMe and has been overwhelmed by the support.

"I honestly didn't think people would contribute knowing the money would be going to the attorney fee judgment. I was completely blown away by how fast and how many supporters donated and sent words of encouragement," she said, "And none, except Kathy, were celebrities or big donors. Most donations were under $100 and from complete strangers who just wanted to help and felt that I shouldn't have to personally cover an unfair legal judgment."

Griffin was one of many people to give money and Daniels praised her "generous donation," revealing the comedian had long been a friend.

"Kathy is a friend who has lended support multiple times over the last several years. Sometimes it is just venting and girl talk on the phone or dinner," Daniels told Newsweek.

"I've attended a few of her shows to cheer her on, where she's taken delight in teasing me from the stage. And yes, most recently, she contributed financially and retweeted the link to her followers."

Daniels also gave her a shout-out on X, formerly Twitter on Wednesday.

"Thank you@kathygriffin for your incredibly generous donation ($30K!!!) and your unwavering support/friendship. After the site fees and paying the attorney fee judgement, the gofundme is less than $55K from being able to relocate after being doxxed during testifying (horses are already moved to safe place)," Daniels posted.

Griffin reposted her and added, "Let's thank our pal @StormyDaniels and help her get to her goal! 🙏."

Newsweek contacted Griffin's respective representatives by email for comment.

It is not the first time Griffin has publicly pledged her support for Daniels, and in 2018 she declared herself: "Team Stormy."

Griffin posted a photo to her then-Twitter account posing with Daniels and giving the middle finger to the camera where she captioned the post, "#TeamStory."
