Paul had a $30 million guarantee date today. The Warriors decided to end this one-year experiment, and Paul will now be one of the best free agents on the open market.

The deadline to lock in Paul's contract was originally on Friday, but the Warriors and Paul agreed to move the date to guarantee the $30 million on his 2024-25 contract. It gave the Warriors a small window to keep exploring trades; however, nobody took the bait, and now teams could sign Paul without giving up anything.

Before coming to the decision to waive Paul, the Warriors were doing their best to try to trade the veteran point guard. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Paul had an interest in multiple teams and, now that he is a free agent, will get a chance to sign with one of his desired teams.

One of the teams Paul expressed interest in was his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers. Other teams to watch that could be interested in Paul are the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, to name a few.

Paul, 39, is coming off arguably the worst season of his career, averaging 9.2 points per game, 6.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game in 58 games for the Warriors last season. Paul was primarily used off the bench and, at times, was a good mix with the legendary duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

The former No. 4 overall pick has bounced around in the league, especially in the last handful of seasons. Paul will now look for a fourth team in six seasons. The former Wake Forest alum is a future Hall of Famer who has spent his career with the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, and the Warriors.

Paul is one of the most accomplished players in the history of the NBA, being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary team, an 11-time All-NBA member, a nine-time All-Defense member, an NBA Rookie of the Year, a five-time NBA assists leader, and a six-time NBA steals leader.

Paul's next destination is unclear, but he will be a highly coveted player these next few days/weeks.
