Man Finds Price of Fiancé's Wedding Dress—What He Does Next Divides Opinion

A man has divided opinion online after canceling his honeymoon without telling his bride-to-be—all because she spent $10,000 on her wedding dress.

"I left my fiancée to buy her wedding dress because I thought she would be mature enough to stay within our budget," Redditor u/DigSpecialist5111 wrote in a post on the popular r/AmITheA****** sub. "I found out that she spent $10,000 on a dress she will wear once."

Stunned by the decision, the poster revealed he canceled their honeymoon, concerned about the cost. "We can't afford both the dress and the honeymoon trip," he said. "I immediately canceled our honeymoon trip... if we had waited any longer, it would have been a lot more pricey to cancel."

His fiancée, though, was furious about the cancelation and argued that she had compromised on other parts of their wedding to be able to afford her dream dress. "She said I had no right to cancel the honeymoon," DigSpecialist5111 said. "If I didn't fix it, she would go on the honeymoon alone."

Relationship expert and CEO of Droben Matchmaking, Ksenia Droben, weighed in on the relationship dilemma. "I see a situation where no one talks to anyone," she told Newsweek. "The bride bought an expensive dress without discussing it with the groom, who then canceled the honeymoon without consulting her."

"The wedding only lasts one day. If the couple has a lot of money, $10,000 can be spent. But if there is no such money, then the bride is already showing her inability to count and manage money," Droben explained. But equally, she said that canceling the trip without consulting his partner showed immaturity in the groom-to-be.

"The couple must learn to talk like adults ready for an adult relationship. At this stage, they communicate like two spoiled, moody children."

On Reddit, the post gained thousands of upvotes and prompted comments from people who were divided in their opinions.

Redditors like Cultural_Card_2603 criticized both parties and wrote: "She bought an expensive wedding dress without informing you and without warning you canceled the honeymoon. It sounds like you both make big decisions behind each other's backs."

While Proper-Marsupial-453 advised the man to leave: "You should nope out ASAP. This has dumpster fire vibes."

Other commenters suggested that both needed to think about whether they were ready to get married: "It sounds to me that if you two aren't mature enough to have conversations about these types of things, perhaps you aren't mature enough to be married."
