Laughter as Man Buys Dachshund To 'Motivate' Him, Reality Is Very Different

A man who got a dog in the hopes it would encourage him to be "more active" has shared the results and it's fair to say things haven't gone exactly according to plan.

The health benefits of owning a dog are well documented. A 2019 study published in Scientific Reports found that dog owners were around four times more likely than non-dog owners to meet daily physical activity guidelines.

The U.K. study found dog owners spent close to 300 minutes a week walking their dogs. That figure was 200 minutes more walking than the average person without a dog.

That's not quite been the case for the owner of Loki the dachshund though.

In a video posted to TikTok under the handle lokisausage2708, Loki's owner shared a snippet of how things have been going since the wiener dog arrived.

The good news is that Loki appeared to be settling in well. The bad news is that his owner's plans to get out in the big wide world with his new four-legged friend have been badly derailed.

In the video, Loki can be seen enjoying the most luxurious of naps, cuddled up and snuggled under his human's duvet.

Loki barely moves throughout the five-second clip, suggesting any plans to head out that particular day were most likely canceled.

The on-screen caption accompanying Loki's snoozing reads: "The dog I got to motivate me into being more active." A second caption, posted alongside the clip confirms that Loki's owner is "even less motivated now."

The video can be watched here.

Loki's efforts, or lack of, were all too relatable for one fellow dog owner, who commented on the clip that his owner's tale of woe was "so accurate."

"My phone pics are all sleeping ones," they admitted.

But while Loki might not be having the desired impact on his owner's physical exertions, the adorable dachshund will undoubtedly be playing a part in brightening up his human's life each and every day.

After all, research has shown that simply petting a four-legged friend like a dog for as little as 10 minutes is enough to provide a significant boost to an individual's overall well-being.

A 2008 study published by the American Educational Research Association found participants experienced a significant reduction in cortisol, the stress hormone, after interacting with either a cat or a dog.

So while Loki might not be getting his new friend out and about, staying indoors is definitely doing him some good.
