Dog's Unimpressed Look at Owner for Bringing Home Baby Delights Internet

A dog has left viewers online in stitches over an unamused look he gave upon meeting his owner's baby.

The video, shared by Brin Engelhardt, captures newborn Jae sitting in a bouncer, playing and giggling, while pit bull Dierks sits next to him looking distinctly unimpressed. The short clip has amassed more than 4.3 million views and 614,000-plus likes in just four days.

"When we brought Jae home, it was like Dierks knew and was so gentle and sweet with him," Engelhardt, known online as @elizabethbf7, told Newsweek.

Explaining the dog's reaction, she added: "Jae kind of skipped the cooing stage and went right into the pterodactyl-sounding stage. Dierks was so used to being the only baby in the house for so long that he was very shocked at how loud a baby can be."

An overlaid text on the video read: "When you've been enjoying quiet cuddles for six years and then your parents bring this thing home."

Dierks, a rescue animal, had been the center of Engelhardt and her husband Ethan's life for years. The introduction of baby Jae, who was born with a rare congenital heart defect, brought new dynamics to the family.

The clip captured what appears to be Dierks reevaluating his new role as a big brother. Despite his initial shock, and his expression in the video, Engelhardt said, "All jokes aside, Dierks loves being a big brother to Jae."

She rescued Dierks from a shelter in Traverse City, Michigan, nearly six years ago while still in college.

"Dierks and I did everything together and have a very close bond," Engelhardt said. "I met my husband, who Dierks adores, we moved to Ohio, and not long after we got married we found out we were having a baby."

"Dierks was all about putting his head on my belly during my pregnancy," she added.

Engelhardt's motivation for posting the video goes beyond humor, however.

She hopes to use her growing TikTok following, and the new attention on her account, to raise awareness about congenital heart defects in support of other parents going through similar experiences.

"I was talking to my husband about how I'd love to make videos about Jae to start trying to raise awareness, and because of Dierks I think I might have the following to really reach a lot of people and maybe help other parents not feel so isolated if they're on a journey with their own heart warrior," Engelhardt said.

The video has not only entertained millions, but has also highlighted the unique bond between the couple's baby and their family dog. More than 2,100 users have voiced their funny takes on the viral moment in the comments section.

"'And you yell at me for barking in the house'," one user joked.

Another added: "He said 'you did this'."

"'is there a return policy?' Pup is unimpressed," a third user said.
