Dog Apologizing to Hitting Owner Delights Internet: 'That Seemed Personal'

Chihuahuas are known for being among the smallest and yet feistiest dogs, but this doesn't mean they can't be sweet with those they love.

A video posted to TikTok last week by user @shannonkmarks shows a chihuahua's heartwarming apology to her owner after accidentally hitting her in the face with its paw.

In the viral clip, which currently has 1 million views, the pup, Phoebe, from New York City can be seen touching her owner, who is just resting in bed, with her paws trying to get her attention. About halfway through the video, Phoebe hits her owner a little too hard. Once she realizes her mistake, the pup immediately apologized to her owner by hugging her neck and giving her lots of kisses.

The video's caption reads: "The immediate apology at the end."

Newsweek has reached out to @shannonkmarks for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.

Phoebe did indeed look upset and sorry for what she did, but did she truly mean her apology?

Dogs rely on their owners for food, shelter and even entertainment when they're the only pet in the household. So is their relationship with us only based on needs? Or do they love us as much as we love them?

"Science proves that part of the canine brain is associated with positive emotions and they do, indeed, feel love for their human companions," VCA Animal Hospitals writes on its website.

There are many signs that prove your dog loves you, but perhaps the most obvious one is their excitement to see you. If your dog jumps or barks or gets overly excited when you step through the door, that's because they couldn't wait to have you back home.

According to VCA Animal Hospitals, your dog may give you "presents," try to sleep in the bed with you, or follow you around the house, or maybe it's looking at you with loving eyes.
