Pre-Draft Outlook
The Wizards are coming off the worst season in franchise history, and they’ve been no better than the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference over the past seven seasons. They also lack a player to build their franchise around. But, at least they have a clearer direction under team president Michael Winger, who traded Kristaps Porzingis and Bradley Beal less than a month after taking over in 2023.
The Way To Go
Beyond Kyle Kuzma, the Wizards don’t have a definite “starter on a good team”-level player on the roster. With Tyus Jones an unrestricted free agent, they could have a big hole at point guard. But they should be thinking long-term with no limitations on the type of player they’re looking at with the No. 2 pick. Popular names at the top of mock drafts include Zaccharie Risacher, Alex Sarr, Reed Sheppard and Nikola Topic. The Wizards also need to decide on a new coach and should be focusing on player development.
