Title: Historic Preservation Communications Specialist
Agency Assignment: NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation
Location: Peebles Island State Park (Waterford, NY)
Compensation: $62,500 and benefits package
Work Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours; Monday - FridayPosition Summary:
The Historic Preservation Communications Specialist will assist and provide support for several DHP and agency wide projects as a writer, researcher and first line of communication. The HPCS will also boost agency initiatives, support special events and programs, provide guidance and training for staff and volunteers, and help with outreach efforts.Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, History, Museum Studies, Public History, or Historic Preservation or relevant preservation or communications field required; Master’s degree preferred. Candidates must also have excellent writing/communications, and research skills, experience educating the public, and experience in event planning.

Title: Historic Preservation Technical Specialist - Grants
Agency Assignment: NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation
Location: Peebles Island State Park (Waterford, NY)
Compensation: $66,000 and benefits package
Work Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours; Monday - FridayPosition Summary:
The Historic Preservation Technical Specialist implements the program areas within the Incentives & Planning Unit. Program areas include OPRHP Environmental Protection Fund Historic Preservation Grants, Historic Homeownership Rehabilitation Credits, Federal Historic Preservation Fund and Maritime Heritage Grants, and other outreach and public engagement including the annual NY Statewide Preservation Conference.A Master’s degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation/Restoration, Preservation Planning, or Structural Engineering, AND two years of experience in a technical or professional capacity working with historic preservation projects. Experience with Section 106 and/or Federal Investment Tax Credit Programs preferred.

Title: Historic Preservation Technical Specialist - Tech Unit

Work Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours; Monday - FridayPosition Summary:
Technical Services Unit staff reviews and provides comments on the effects of Federal or State undertakings on the historic built environment in accordance with Federal and New York State historic preservation laws. Additionally, staff review and provide review for Part 2 and Part 3 of the Commercial Tax Credit application.A bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, historic preservation/restoration planning, or landscape architecture, and TWO years of experience in a technical or professional capacity working with historic preservation projects; or a master’s degree or higher in any of the above disciplines and ONE year of qualifying experience as noted above is required.

The Interpreter of Native American History ensures that the perspectives of Indigenous peoples are included in our interpretation for a more truthful view of the past and present.
