In this op-ed by EdTrust-New York executive director Arlen Benjamin-Gomez, we argue that the foundation aid formula, which is the main source of state funding for school districts, does indeed need an update. The formula, which has the greatest impact on students from low-income backgrounds and communities of color, relies on outdated data and methodologies that do not reflect today's challenges. To address educational equities, we must reform the formula guided by equity and transparency. Read more here: https://edtru.st/3XOCsCu

Great op-ed by Arlen Benjamin-Gomez. From my reading of state policies, NY's school funding formula is one of the least transparent in the country, and without the great work of third-party advocates like EdTrust-New York, parents would have no hope of understanding how much funding the state means to provide for their children's schools and whether that amount matches their students' needs. New Yorkers are owed a better, more equitable school funding formula that parents and community members are actually meant to understand--and the state should actually fund that formula instead of constantly falling short. #edpolicy #edequity #schoolfunding

Educational Equity Champion, Leadership Developer, Author, Keynote Speaker, Curriculum Reviewer, Critical Literacy Theorist,
Funding is a critical power tool directing access to educational opportunities. Not only is New York's funding plans the least transparent, it's also among THE most segregated. The work of organizations like Ed Trust-NY peel back the curtain and provide parents with the information to ask the right questions about their tax dollars. #PowerTools #PowerProtectingHurts #KickTheTires #FundingEquityMatters
