I serve Inclusion Europe as we lead Europe to finally #EndSegregation of people with intellectual disabilities

750,000 people with intellectual disabilities must live in segregated “care” institutions with 30 persons or more in one place. 39,000 “live” in psychiatric hospitals. And despite all the deinstitutionalisation talk and projects in the EU "persons with intellectual disabilities and people with complex support needs are most likely to still live in institutional settings." I brought some of these facts and figures into my presentation today for Inclusion International deinstitutionalisation working group. Thank you Guillaume Jacquinot for the invite. I talked about some of the work being done to address these issues, and about what some countries in Europe are doing (not enough). We continue campaigning to end segregation of people with intellectual disabilities, and isolation of their families in Europe. The figures are from Inclusion Europe Inclusion indicators report. The quote from 2020 report on deinstitutionalisation in the EU.
