For Jay Schacher, being at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity felt like a docudrama, with highlights like Juan Señor's stage sprints and incredible winning works. The 2024 festival showcased the seismic shift in design due to generative AI, emphasizing the importance of optimized, intelligent iteration and embracing the impossible.

Hey creative friends looking to learn more about AI: There's a phenomenal online event that started yesterday and finishes up today. It's called the Infinite Canvas: Exploring AI's Creative Potential and hosted by Superside. It's not some basic beginner class that's a waste of time. It's experts from the biggest brands giving you the really real on how they use AI in practical ways. Ways that have valuable, daily applications in our creative lives. Things like "cloning your “operational” self, integrating AI with psychology, or uncovering performance opportunities you’d otherwise miss." Yesterday was great and today promises to be even better. Starts at 11 EST. If you can make, I highly recommend. If not, I believe you'll be able to see recordings of the 3 hour sessions. Let me know what you think.

Last week, ADPList organized a session with someone we all know in the UX Design industry, and maybe beyond: Don Norman. Until now, I've heard about Don Norman from books, online courses, and other designers. But it was a pleasure to listen to him live for myself. Now, he's not just someone I've heard about somewhere; he's a role model for me both personally and professionally. The main personal takeaway I gleaned from the session is as follows: ✨ The role of the designers can become the most important profession of all because design combines the understanding of people (they are designing for people and society), and understanding of technology (it is basically everything created by humans). ✨ Designers need to be mindful of the impact their designs have on the environment and on human behavior, such as addiction to scrolling and losing track of time on unimportant things. ✨ Don't only concentrate on drawing skills! Think outside the box and learn about different subjects like economics, history, politics, medicine, engineering, marketing, and more. Learn to collaborate with people from different areas of disciplines. Invest in developing design thinking. ✨ What's more crucial, theory or practice? This question was common during my university days. But you know what? As Don Norman said, there is a difference between what is needed to do things and what is needed to understand the underlying principles, both are necessary... they go both and forth between industry and academics. ✨ We have to learn to understand the differences, and different cultures and work with them and accommodate them. 🔥 And my favorite one. "The reason why design should be the most important topic of all is that WE ARE DOERS, we aren't just thinkers, we owe it; we make changes that make a difference to people's lives, which means we have to understand things way beyond what is traditionally called design, we have to understand, well ... maybe about everything." His words motivate me to learn more, to get out of my box (my comfort zone), to learn about other cultures, and to learn about other disciplines and humans. Write in the comments, what drives you to develop? What makes you love what you do? And if you want to listen to the full session, you can check the link below.

💡 Featured in the media 💡 'Humanizing AI - Launched at Amsterdam's Nxt Museum, Tellart's entity SAM revealed the experiential potential in uniting multiple AI tools. 'Design agency Tellart is looking at new ways to harness artificial intelligence for exhibitions and experiences with entity ‘SAM’. A one-off activation at the Dutch capital’s Nxt Museum prompted guests to interact with SAM via a mobile-based chat box powered by local webserver P5.js, to learn ‘more about what it means to be a human.’ As I, with others, responded to questions like what personal achievement feels like and the last time a movie or concert had emotional impact, snippets of answers were reflected back in Nxt’s immersive projection room. After this Q&A session concluded, SAM returned as a narrator, providing a cinematic, shared narrative of the responses with ChatGPT utilized for the script-writing, prompt writing and voiceover generation and Stable Diffusion tools for the images and videos that were projected. TouchDesigner supported show control and stitched the video and sound together. ‘The goal of this experience was to create a space for people to experience AI together instead of individually,’ says Sabrina Verhage, Tellart technology director ‘I love how when we worked together as a team, experimenting with LLMs, video generation models, immersive theatre and generative AI, we facilitated a live experience that sparked imaginations and encouraged us to reflect on the impact of these new technologies.’ Indeed, the experience certainly left me wondering about emerging technologies can work in tandem to take IRL entertainment further, as well as how intimate AI will become to us on both an individual and collective level. When SAM asked people if they would rather go to the cinema or watch a personalized movie generated by AI, a majority of responses opted for the cinema, so it remains to be seen how fast our readiness for such experiences will evolve.' Thank you FRAME and Lauren Grace Morris for visiting SAM and sharing your experience! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/egHnDeat
