Planetary health is all about recognizing how closely our well-being is tied to the health of the planet. Sustainable and ethical healthcare practices play a crucial role in this connection. By focusing on resource efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy, sustainable healthcare can significantly lower its environmental impact. Ethical practices, on the other hand, ensure that everyone has fair access to healthcare and promote a sense of responsibility towards our environment. Healthcare systems generate a lot of waste and greenhouse gases, contributing to environmental degradation. Read more here. https://lnkd.in/gx-gph47

Just received my certificate in Introduction to Sustainable Health Systems from the CASCADE Summer Institute! 🎓 This experience has profoundly reshaped my perspective on the journey towards sustainability and net zero in health systems. 🌍 It's become clear to me that achieving these goals requires an immense amount of hard work and dedication, yet it often goes unnoticed. One key takeaway from the course was the importance of circular economy models within the sustainable framework. By reusing and reprocessing equipment instead of relying on single-use products, we can significantly reduce waste and prolong the use of materials in the health sector. This not only conserves resources but also promotes a more sustainable and efficient healthcare system. The insights and knowledge I gained have equipped me with the tools to advocate for and implement sustainable practices in health systems. Sustainability in health care is not just an add-on; it's a necessity for the future. We need to push forward with innovative solutions and a collective effort to make our health systems more resilient and environmentally friendly. Grateful for this learning opportunity and excited to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future in healthcare. Let's make sustainability a priority! 💚 #SustainableHealth #NetZero #CASCADESummerInstitute #HealthcareInnovation #SustainabilityInHealthcare

The latest from AHA Market Scan: 4 Ways to Drive Transformational Change in Sustainability Like a growing number of health care organizations, New Jersey’s Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) system has been on a journey for some time now to reduce its environmental impact and boost sustainability practices. Decarbonization efforts like these helped four HMH hospitals to be the first in the country to achieve The Joint Commission’s Sustainable Healthcare Certification earlier this month. Sustainability programs like that of HMH were once seen as an add-on to hospital operations and health care delivery. Today they are an operational priority as health care organizations confront climate change and work to reduce its impact on patients, employees and communities. The recently released AHA-American Society for Health Care Engineering’s Health Care Leader’s Guide to Sustainability and Decarbonization spells out the challenge facing the field. https://lnkd.in/gzbF92mC
