As professionals, it is our duty to uphold the values of freedom of speech and expression on university campuses. However, recent incidents of police interference in these sacred spaces have raised concerns about the preservation of these fundamental rights. It is crucial to recognize that universities are meant to be a safe haven for diverse perspectives and critical thinking. The presence of law enforcement on campus can create an atmosphere of intimidation and hinder open discussions. Furthermore, the intrusion of police on university grounds can also have a chilling effect on the academic freedom of students and faculty. It is essential to safeguard the autonomy of educational institutions and ensure that they remain free from external influences. As we continue to advocate for the protection of freedom of speech and expression, let us also stand against any form of police interference on university campuses. The antisemitic activity taking place on college campuses right now is horrific. Graduation is supposed to be a time of joy and celebration. Instead, Jewish students and their families are scared for their safety.   Universities must step up and take clear, decisive action to prevent disruptions. This includes strengthening conduct policies, putting the campus community on clear notice, finalizing security protocols, ensuring there are consequences for any violations, and providing resources and support for Jewish students. https://lnkd.in/eD7NSsnp

One thing we’ve learned from the recent congressional hearings with university presidents is that addressing antisemitism in American universities is crucial. The testimony has revealed serious issues on campuses, and the acknowledgment from university presidents about the need for antisemitism training for faculty, staff, and students. If standing purely on business, evidence is clear on how important Latinos are to both the vibrancy and health of our communities and the health of our economy. Not to mention the Swag / Sazon we add from a cultural perspective. IYKYK It’s a shame when certain narratives, especially during politically heightened periods like our 2024 election cycle, overshadow common sense social+education policies and strategies that would serve to lift us all up. Representation and diversity enriches everything and accessibility for Latinos stagnating or becoming worse over past 20 years at selective institutions of higher learning (relative to population data )certainly marks a clear call to action for change.
