Today I had the the amazing opportunity to attend The University of Texas at Dallas Career Fair! I learned a lot about the opportunities available to students and the expectations of potential employers. I particularly enjoyed the chance to engage with recruiters and gain a better understanding of what they are looking for in candidates. Some tips I recommend for other incoming UTD JSOM students would be: 1. Have a Resume Ready for Recruiters: A resume can make a strong first impression and set you apart from other candidates. 2. Develop an Elevator Pitch: Prepare a brief but captivating elevator pitch that clearly summarizes who you are, your career goals, and what you bring to the table. 3. Take Notes on Employers: After speaking with recruiters or company representatives, take a few moments to jot down notes about each conversation. Record key details such as the recruiter's name, company information, and any key points for follow-up actions. Overall, the fair was a very valuable opportunity to connect with potential employers and learn more about the professional world.

Today is the University of Arkansas ­- Sam M. Walton College of Business Career Fair that will provide an opportunity for our students to connect with over 150 employers. Students, this is an opportunity for you to connect with companies who are looking to hire you so please take advantage of this opportunity while you can. Here are a few tips to prepare: 1. Study up on the companies you are most interested in working for prior to attending the Career Fair, learn about their brands, and read their press releases. 2. Prioritize which companies you want to talk to first and find them early on when you arrive. Prepare questions for the recruiters that you stop and chat with, look them in the eye when speaking with them and be sure to thank them for their time. 4. Follow up and stay connected after the Career Fair, get the recruiter's business card, connect with them on LinkedIn and send a follow up thank you e-mail--it makes all of the difference. The practice career fair at Reynolds Hall on September 17, 2024, was great practice for the real upcoming career fair on October 2, 2024. I had a lot of fun talking to great people at the practice career fair and learned many new skills. It helped me to get a good understanding of what I need to do to prepare myself. At the practice career fair I was able to talk to many different companies and practice my conversational skills. The more I talked to companies the more confident I got in myself. During these conversations, I was able to practice my personal pitch to companies. Each conversation was different so tailoring my pitch to the company presented was important. For the future, I look to expand on the lessons I learned and applying them to my next career fair. One thing I learned is to research the companies I want to talk to in the future. I learned that it is important to know the company you are approaching. Now that I have some experience, I will use it to the best of my ability and I look forward to the upcoming career fair and connecting with new companies.
