This week presented an opportunity to meet and connect with many new colleagues at Owens Corning, including our company’s “spokes-cat,” but it was made even better with the opportunity to re-connect with Megan James, APR and Andrea Berryman, who are both alumni of Cooper Tire. It’s always great when paths cross again in unexpected ways!

Sounds like a fantastic week of reconnecting with familiar faces and making new connections at Owens Corning! Always a pleasure when paths cross in unexpected ways.
Honoring Black Innovators and Leaders in Transportation
I would like to introduce Frederick McKinley “Casey” Jones. Frederick patented the mechanical transport refrigeration unit, which made it possible for long haul trucks and railroad cars to transport fresh and frozen foods around the world.
The Inspiration:
Jones was inspired to develop this cooling device after a truck driver told him about losing a large shipment of food after the tractor-trailer’s storage compartment overheated during a long-distance trip.
The How:
Jones made his biggest impact as an inventor, however, through his technological breakthroughs for the improved refrigeration of temperature-sensitive food products being shipped over long distances.
He joined entrepreneur Joseph A. “Joe” Numero to form the U.S. Thermo Control Company (later known as Thermo King Corporation) to create systems for ensuring the success of such deliveries.
As part of these efforts during the 1940s, Jones developed a means for refrigerating the interior of a long-haul truck’s tractor-trailer and thereby preventing the spoilage of food transported in the vehicle.
His final patent was for a thermostat and control system for controlled spaces; according to the specifications for that system, “the invention is concerned with vehicles in which perishable products are transported.”
In the time since his death, Jones has continued to be honored for his significant and even life-saving contributions to the transportation of goods across the globe. He was inducted into the Minnesota Inventors Hall of Fame in 1977. In 1991, Jones was posthumously awarded the National Medal of Technology by President George H.W. Bush. Jones was the first African-American to receive this honor.

🏭 Happy National Manufacturing Day! 🛠️
Today, we celebrate the backbone of our global economy and the innovative spirit that drives progress. Manufacturing isn't just an industry; it's the engine that keeps our world moving forward.
To all the hardworking individuals in the manufacturing field: Thank you! Your dedication, skill, and ingenuity are the forces behind the products we use every day. From the cars we drive to the phones in our pockets, your work touches every aspect of our lives.
Manufacturing is truly a core industry that keeps the world functioning. It's where raw materials become cutting-edge technology, where ideas transform into tangible solutions, and where the future is being built today.
Celerity Staffing Solutions takes a moment to appreciate the vital role manufacturing plays in driving innovation, creating jobs, and shaping our future.

Imagine standing at the crossroads of innovation and tradition, where over 300 professionals from the distribution industry converge to redefine the future. This week, at the University of Innovative Distribution (UID) in Indianapolis, I had the privilege of engaging with a diverse group of individuals, from inventory managers to regional VPs, all united by a common purpose: to elevate the noble calling of distribution.
In a room charged with the energy of possibility, we dove deep into the essence of our work during my session, "The Noble Calling of Distribution." It wasn't just about the roles we play in our companies; it was about recognizing ourselves as catalysts for change, as Forces For Good within an industry that moves not just products but society itself forward.
We challenged the notion that our people are mere assets, celebrating instead our collective strength and the individual heroes who, with love and dignity, drive our industry forward.
Inspired by the wisdom of Epicurus' garden, we envisioned a future where personal development opportunities are not reserved for the chosen few but open to all employees—a future where every individual is empowered to thrive, both within the confines of our businesses and beyond.
This is our call to action, a rallying cry for the entire $8 trillion distribution industry not only to acknowledge but to actively foster the potential within each of our team members.
It's about breaking down the barriers to personal growth and ensuring that 100% of our employees have the chance to step into the next best version of themselves. Let's not forget our deskless workers, who typically receive little development opportunities after we train them on the hard skills needed for the job.
As we proudly proclaim, "We Supply America," let's also commit to supplying our people with the tools, opportunities, and support they need to flourish.
This is the true essence of being a Force For Good in distribution.
Join us in this mission, and together, let's shape a future where every individual in our industry can say with pride, "I am flourishing being a part of something truly noble."
Thank you to all who spent the afternoon with me and left with the inspiration, commitment, and energy knowing, "We Supply America!"
Leave Well.
As I end week 2 since my departure from the MOD, I consider all the reflections I've had and how they shape where I go next.
Leaving well (psychologically) is very important and for me leaving well is a combination of having choice, recognition and a sense of having made a difference. I have left well and some of the comments on my leaving card, which is in my kitchen, remind me every day that I made a difference.
What is on my dressing table is a additive manufacturing model of HMS Excellent that a team member made that I look at and smile and nod and fist bump because I had a vision and it became a reality and they embody it.
These past two weeks have been super busy, with stuff I have chosen to do, so no Eisenhower matrix choices of what to delegate or delete and spending proper time with friends and colleagues, face to face, has opened up a host of unexpected doors. It's so exciting.
I've experimented with my quiches - not a euphemism and my leek, bacon and goats cheese concoction is 10/10
So today I am positive, fulfilled and looking forward to continuing to be a part of things that excite me. One of those is collaborating with Allan Goody to set up a UK Chapter of Council of Logistics Engineering Professionals (CLEP) but more on that in the new year.
In the meantime I refer to Noam Chomsky:
“Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.”
Merry Christmas You Filthy Animals 🎅 🦌 🎁
