What am I selling? I am selling insurance as a great career. Within this (general) product of insurance is great pay, steady hours, too many subfields to count, never-ending learning (if you want that), and it's a growing industry that is very rewarding. I’m selling to people that want to buy this product. It's recruiting. Recruiting people with potential (not always experience) to the life of insurance. Selling (and servicing) insurance is important, but I think it is secondary. Recruit the right people and provide the product they are looking for, and the business will do great. Ever wondered why you can't find an experienced Assistant Broker for your team? For the last 3 years I've noticed a common trend in the industry and that coming up to June 30 almost every client of mine is looking to fill an Assistant Account Executive/ Broker Support role. It's only February and I am already starting to see the jobs come in. Why does this seem to happen at this time every year I am still trying to uncover but the trend is definitely there. Some of the main reasons I've identified the shortage of experienced Broker Assistants include: - Broker Assistants don't want to stay a support person forever. They are ambitious and will transition into an Account Exec/ Account Manager role after the first couple of years. - There is no funnel of new candidates coming into the industry. I speak with a lot of claims consultants or big insurer sales and service candidates who would love to have a crack at broking but businesses are always wanting "experienced assistants". The industry needs to amplify efforts to showcase the diversity in the profession and the potential for grow their skills into broking. OR a better strategy to entice young professionals to consider a career in insurance. - The shortage itself - the good ones will stay with their current employers who show they value them through salary raises, bonuses, training programs and qualifications. Essentially they do all they need to to keep them. The Assistant Account Executive season is almost upon us so I would encourage any business thinking they might need to fill a vacancy before the end of the financial year to start looking now.
