We’ve had a great time around the state celebrating Pride in the communities we serve, including at events in Coeur d’Alene, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls. Our employee volunteers had a blast and it was great to interact with so many Idahoans who share our support for an inclusive environment for all. We’re looking forward to Boise Pride in September! #IdahoPride #BlueCrossofIdaho #CommunityofKindness #Pride Idaho Falls Pride North Idaho Pride Alliance

My recent piece for the American Bear Foundation. I talk about: -A new standard for being a good role model in the outdoor community for future generations. This includes three grossly underrated concepts. Most likely, they are not what you expect. Do you have what it takes to meet the new standard? https://lnkd.in/gQ-85VTT

Cattail is an #aquaticplant that reproduces so rapidly that populations can become problematic at times. But, they also serve as important #habitat for juvenile #fish, #macroinvertebrates, and #birds. https://lnkd.in/eUAjD2tj #MSAPMS #aquaticplants #cattails #birding

...'Today, decades of #disinvestment have left #freetowns #vulnerable to #predatory #development, #land #theft and #industrialization. The Banners hoped to reverse those trends. Yet within weeks of creating their organization, their #purpose shifted dramatically. Instead of supporting other #Black #communities, the twins found themselves fighting for their own #hometown’s #survival. Wallace, population 1,240, was facing an #existential #threat in the form of the #proposed #construction of a gargantuan #grain-export #terminal, the latest in an onslaught of industrial #growth along the lower #Mississippi #River. The terminal would “drain us of all of our #resources and all of our #qualityoflife”, Joy said. “The overall goal is to run all of us out.” Across the #South, freetowns – also called Black-founded towns or #freedom #colonies – are fighting similar kinds of #encroachment. Helmed by Black men and women looking to escape #slavery and white #supremacy, freetowns #functioned as #autonomous communities, #producing their own #food and #governance and even providing relative #safety during the Jim Crow era. Now, many are in the #untenable position of having to #advocate for their right to have a #future. Often, this means #uncovering #lost #histories and #genealogies, seeking #protection through #historic #registries and battling #local #governments, #developers and #corporations in #court. For advocates like the Banners, the effort to maintain a stable status quo can be exhausting.'... https://lnkd.in/g3Bg7v_b

"Before the Great Lakes of Superior, Michigan, Huron, Ontario, and Erie became the signature icons of the upper Midwest, a far larger lake dominated the region." ✍ Kyle Dahlquist, Clean Water Corpsmember / AmeriCorps Member placed at Pennington SWCD Lear more about how this giant lake shaped our region, and the entire planet in Kyle's blog post! https://lnkd.in/g3_pq23d #EnvironmentalCareers #ConservationCareers #ServiceYear #CareerExperience #YearOutdoors #ServeOutdoors [Image Description ] A map showing a historic lake that covered most of what is now Manitoba, reaching into surrounding provinces, and down into what is now Minnesota. Oconee County, South Carolina is such a wonderful community to live, work and recreate and it's not just us saying it. It's been documented just how vibrant our business climate and workforce is to support business but according to Niche, Oconee County ranks high nationally in some very key categories such as outdoor activities, best places to live, schools and more that go to the heart of what makes for an outstanding quality of life. Take a look at these national rankings among U.S. counties! Just another example of why Oconee is "Top Shelf for Business"! #oconeesc #OconeeEconomicDevelopment #OEA #TopShelfForBusiness

Community power is something you can feel. It’s active, gladdens the heart, and results in outcomes that sometimes feel like miracles (even if you know there was no shortage of hard work and strategy involved!). I believe that Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are at their best when they serve as a platform for collaborative, community-based efforts, which build the power and influence of those with the least access to opportunity, and advance the inalienable right of self-determination. Residents of the Bo-Linda Vista Community — who are organizing with Bolinas CLT (BCLT) to avoid displacement, counteract historic discrimination, and develop permanent affordable housing on the Ranch where they lived unhoused in an encampment for too many years — are just one shining example of what an empowered community on the rise looks like! It was an honor and a privilege to accept the invitation of these courageous and compassionate leaders — my neighbors, friends, and co-conspirators in the pursuit of housing equity and justice — to celebrate some exciting recent milestones with them at their current home. A temporary RV campground that they named Bo-Linda Vista. It was a truly beautiful celebration hosted by some truly beautiful souls! Public engagement discuss…. I’m asking the question here of the engaged professionals on LinkedIn. Having heard from tree officers and arboriculturists about the thousands of enquires that they get from the public wanting trees removed because of perceived threats or experienced nuisance; Having tried to facilitate consultation processes around trees where the parties had no desire to allow space in their own minds to comprehend one another’s drivers, needs or perceptions; Having met with members of the public, protesting about a felled tree who said to me “I want to make the tree consultant feel the pain that I feel”; But also having been involved with and seen brilliantly successful tree schemes that have engaged the public and delivered for everyone; I photographed this tree today with a paradigm in my head of what story it would tell. However, it turns out that it tells a slightly different story than is implied by my preceding list. But I’ll share that later, for now I am interested in people’s thoughts… #trees #treeplanting #publicengagement #protest #council #streets #streettrees #arboriculture #vandalism #treeofficer #iliketreesbut
