Public Health Physician | Consultant | Population Health | Integrated Care | Value Driven Care | Health Policy & Management | Systemic Design | Health System Transformation
0 to 1 Community Hospital of the Future recently received Ministry of Health (Singapore) approval for implementation. This has been a monumental journey of change and stakeholder management to what is hypothesized to be an incremental (hopefully additive) transformation journey which (1) leverages the clinical capabilities of Community Hospitals to service a higher acuity of patients, and supports earlier discharge or right siting of low intensity rehabilitation patients to community care providers, to (2) demonstrate evidence based, safe and effective care model redesign, and national and cluster level policy enablement, and land on (3) Community Hospitals being the first port of call for a wide range of General Medicine and Geriatric patients, and the main site of management of post operative convalescent care. This could not have been achieved without the strong support of: Wee Hoe Gan Lian Leng Low Ming Ee Young Kelvin Koh Alvin Ong Angel Lee Cher Wee Lim and the MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT) CHoF team. As I continue to advise on this project, I would like to take this chance to reach out to my LinkedIn contacts to fill 5 positions: (1) a project lead (assistant director) to provide overall strategy, planning and operational direction - preferably a clinician with project management experience; (2) a senior researcher to independently lead qualitative and quantitative programme evaluation; (3) two program administrators to ensure program operations and site relations run smoothly; and (4) a stakeholder engagement, comms professional to front conversations. When working with a clinical consultant as a CEO, you should hire someone who can take the lead and doesn't require babysitting. Screen that person appropriately to determine if they have the right cultural fit and are trustworthy enough to give them free reign. A clinical consultant must gather enough data about your business to develop proper interventions. They can't and shouldn't get the information from you, the CEO, because your biases aren't shared with other organizational stakeholders. Asynchronous communication can help relieve the pressure on you as the CEO by providing just enough frequent check-ins to ensure that your hourly rate is a good investment in the future of your business. A good consultant will have a 9:1 strategy of collecting mostly data (90% of resources), analyzing your particular situation, and recommending an intervention only after that exhaustive process (10% of resources.) #ceo #consulting #clinical #healthcare #medicaladvisor #clinicalconsultant
