Diwali, also called Deepavali, is India’s grandest and most important holiday of the year. Diwali holds great importance to Hindus and other faiths, as it honors the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. The Festival of Lights is celebrated by decorating homes with lamps and candles to symbolize the inner light that protects people from spiritual darkness. Over the course of five days, the observance is commemorated with revelry, family gatherings and a vibrant display of colors. #ParksAreCommonGround #ThisIsToledo #Diwali #FestivalOfLights

These parks sit on lands that were ancestral homes to Native American Tribes such as the Ojibwe (Chippewa), Odawa (Ottawa) Potawatomi, Lenapi (Delaware), Shawnee, Myaami (Miami), Wyandot (Huron), Mingo and the Wabash Nations which consisted of Peoria, Wea, Kickapoo and Piankashaws Nations. Metroparks Toledo embraces the Native Nations traditions of environmental stewardship as a critical part of the park system’s conservation mission. #ParksAreCommonGround #ThisIsToledo #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

Thank you Alex Gerken and Fifth Third Bank for your ongoing support of Metroparks.
I was proud to represent Fifth Third Bank as we announced donations to five amazing Toledo non-profits last week. This was just a small sampling of the many organizations we've supported to date in 2024. We are proud of the impact their programs will have on our community. Special thanks to our partners for coming out to enjoy a beautiful day at our namesake Fifth Third Field! We appreciate all the work you do to impact lives and meet the needs of our community. October 26th is National Make a Difference Day! You can make a difference today and everyday in your community by volunteering at metropark near you. Volunteers play an indelible role in the quality and continuous improvement of Metroparks across the area whether it is in education, conservation, or helping to maintain our natural spaces. Fall colors are redecorating the Metroparks.
It had been a while since I made the rounds to Metroparks across the county, but fall color and several park projects were reasons to do so Friday. I started at Manhattan Marsh then continued to Secor, Wiregrass Lake, Oak Openings, Blue Creek and Farnsworth before ending the day(light) at my "home park," Pearson, right at sunset.

Countdown to Colors More colors are creeping in by the day, with peak forecast for mid-October. Sunny days and cool nights are the recipe for color, and those conditions have arrived just in time. Recent rainfall should help, too, though part of the region remains under severe drought conditions. Karen Menard spoke with 13abc yesterday about what's ahead as Autumn officially arrives in a few days. #ParksAreCommonGround #ThisIsToledo #Fall #FallColors https://lnkd.in/gEDPvrYZ

Today we honor those who fought at the Battle of Fallen Timbers 230 years ago on August 20, 1794. With their sacrifices the Northwest Territory was forever changed. Let us not forget one of the most important battles to the formation of the United States of America. #ParksAreCommonGround #ThisIsToledo
