🚇🔴 Urgent Update: Subway Incident at Hoyt-Schermerhorn Station 🔴🚇 Yesterday, during the evening rush-hour commute, a terrifying incident unfolded on a subway train at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station in Brooklyn. Here’s what we know so far: 🔫 Altercation Escalates: Around 4:45 p.m., an altercation erupted between two individuals—Dajuan Robinson (36) and Younece Obuad (32). The tension escalated as the northbound A train approached the Hoyt-Schermerhorn stop. 🔥 Chaos Unleashed: Witnesses describe Robinson as being aggressive and provocative toward Obuad. The situation quickly turned physical, and passengers scrambled to safety as the fight intensified. Cell-phone footage captured the frantic scenes as the two men grappled with each other. 💔 Tragic Outcome: In a horrifying turn of events, Robinson shot Obuad in the head with his own gun. Despite efforts by fellow passengers to intervene, the violence persisted. 🚑 Injured Passenger: Obuad was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. Whether in K12 schools or other settings, fights are one of the most common precursor events for shootings and edged weapons assaults, this can be especially so if fights are reheated to gang activity. My experience has been generally consistent with the CDC's findings that 45% of homicides on school property involve "interpersonal disputes" and 25% are related to gang activity. This is why we advise our clients to focus on reducing fights in schools combined with assertive approaches to address gang activity to prevent the most common types of situations that result in violent deaths. While active shooter events get the lions share of media coverage they are actually one of the rarest scenarios for death by homicide in K12 schools. Detroit is tackling crime, seeing its lowest crime rates in nearly 60 years! Last year, the Detroit Police Department hired 200 officers who are now patrolling the city. Six community-based organizations (ShotStoppers) were selected to reduce violent crime in neighborhoods - with one group already achieving a 72% reduction in homicides and non-fatal shootings.
