🚧 For your safety and the safety of our contractors, please avoid using the trail until construction wraps up in Spring 2025. This area is an active construction site and poses a safety hazard for trail users, workers, and drivers. Thanks for your patience as we work to make the trail safe and ready for all! 🙏 #TrailUpdate #SafetyFirst #ConstructionZone #IndyDPW #NickelPlateTrail

Today, Mayor Joe Hogsett and DMD joined Westside CDC and partners to cut the ribbon on 2 new homeownership opportunities on the near westside made possible in part by Vacant to Vibrant, the City's pilot program aimed at increasing affordable housing. In July 2023, the City of Indianapolis awarded $5.86 million to support the creation of more than four dozen homes available for rent, ownership and lease-to-purchase. Of those, $300k + 4 vacant lots went toward supporting the vision of Westside CDC. Thanks to the hard work of Cliff's Construction, LLC. and additional supporting funds from Citizens Energy Group National Urban League and Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP), these two homes are now available for families making 80% or below Area Medium Income. The Indianapolis Fire Department Showcase + Fall Safety Festival returns Oct 12th at The IFD Training Academy from 10 am–2 pm. This annual community event promotes fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness with fire demos, interactive exhibits, free food, and family fun. The goal? To create a fun and engaging atmosphere where families can learn about fire safety, explore emergency response tactics/equipment, and interact with our dedicated firefighters. HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED Calling businesses, organizations, and neighborhood groups who are interested in donating time, talent, or treasure: Our Fire Department always shows up for us, and this time we get to show up for them! IFD is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with event setup, registration, crowd management, and various activity stations. By participating as a volunteer, your company/agency will have the opportunity to showcase its commitment to community welfare, brand visibility among thousands of attendees, and the chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of our fellow citizens. They are also asking for your support in donations – donors can contribute items such as food and beverages, promotional merchandise, or any other resources that can enhance the festival experience.
