We’re proud to join the County of Maui and our USACE partners last week to celebrate this project. We’re honored to be part of this USACE contract to continue serving our Maui ‘ohana, providing valuable environmental and infrastructure solutions to the community. Kīpuka o ke Ola (KOKO), a Native Hawaiian Health Clinic, has been established to address Native Hawaiian health disparities in North Hawaiʻi. KOKO is designed to provide a full range of bio-psycho-social services to the residents of North Hawaiʻi, with an emphasis on serving Native Hawaiians. It provides culturally informed direct services, actively collaborates with other like-spirited individuals and organizations, and is led by the community that it serves. KOKO serves approximately 2,750 patients, of which 41% are Native Hawaiian. According to the Hawai‘i Department of Health’s Hawai‘i Health Matters, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander populations in the KOKO service area of North Hawai‘i (Waimea, South Kohala, North Kohala, and Hāmākua) range between 24-37% of the total population. Therefore, KOKO is favorably over-represented in serving Native Hawaiians. The Hawaiian Native Corporation (HNC), DAWSON’s parent company, is happy to provide funding to KOKO for a much-needed 14,000 sq. ft. facility as they have outgrown their current space. This expansion is crucial to address the urgent need to grow beyond the current space, enabling KOKO to continue its vital work and better meet the expanding needs of the community. The HNC is honored to support KOKO's efforts and looks forward to seeing the positive impact this contribution will have on the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians in North Hawai‘i. Kua`aina Associates is an Indigenous-led non-profit organization founded in 2005 by a Native Hawaiian and Māori person, each recognizing their kuleana (responsibility) to bring together their collective years and experience as cultural stewards. The Hawaiian Native Corporation, DAWSON’s parent company, is honored to provide financial support for the He`e Nalu project. This project covers 2,000 years of surfing history, from the earliest stories of surf deities to contemporary works of art to surfing innovations through the lens of 13 modern Kanaka Maoli creatives and cultural practitioners. The stories and histories of surfing were shared through a Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) perspective through the process of mo`olelo, the method of storytelling “how it came to be.” Celebrate Indigenous artists and explore He'e Nalu: The Art and Legacy of Hawaiian Surfing: https://lnkd.in/gti46r2B #Art #Surfing #History #NativeHawaiian #Hawaiian #Culture #KuaainaAssociates

The Hawaiian Native Corporation, DAWSON’s parent company, recently attended the Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation’s (NHLC) Uluoʻa 50th Anniversary. Uluoʻa means to stand erect or upright, which speaks to the work of NHLC and the others in the community who have dedicated themselves to the preservation and protection of Native Hawaiian people, rights, practices, and places. Since 1974, the NHLC has provided legal assistance to families and communities engaged in perpetuating the culture and traditions of Hawai’i’s indigenous people. NHLC has served as a bridge between Western law and Native Hawaiian custom and tradition, successfully translating and informing Western jurisprudence from a Hawaiian worldview, protecting and preserving that which makes Hawaiʻi our home. Mahalo to the NHLC for all the great work they do that benefits the Native Hawaiian communities. The Hawaiian Native Corporation (HNC), DAWSON’s parent company, is excited to support Rock Salt Media (RSM) and their production work on the television show “Family Ingredients.” RSM is a group of content creators who write, produce, and direct. Their main focus is to capture human stories and share them with the world, with a purpose to do better. Focusing on sustainability, their stories touch on food security, climate change, thoughtful growth, respecting the host culture, and sharing responsibility for achieving a sustainable Hawai‘i and a sustainable planet. We’re supporting RSM’s work on season four of the Emmy award-winning show “Family Ingredients.” The show invites the audience to discover the untold stories behind the dishes of our shared communities. Each episode features a guest who introduces a dish or favorite family recipe. They explore the recipe's history and take a journey that bridges communities through cultural experiences. Host, chef, and Native Hawaiian, Ed Kenny’s mantra is “local first, organic whenever possible, with aloha always.” Watch the PBS series Family Ingredients: https://lnkd.in/g8S6_RgT Explore other storytelling projects from RSM: https://rocksaltmedia.com/ PBS Hawaiʻi #RockSaltMedia #FamilyIngredients #PBSHawaii #Sustainability #FoodSecurity #ClimateChange #Culture #Hawaiian

🌺 Reflecting on Maui: One Year Later 🌺 Me ke aloha nui i kō kākou pu‘uwai, e ho‘omana‘o ke kaumaha a me ka pōpilikia. With great aloha in our hearts, we remember the losses endured and the challenges faced. Today marks one year since the devastating wildfires swept through our beloved Maui, leaving scars on the land and in our hearts. While we remember the challenges and loss, we also celebrate the resilience and unity of the Maui community. From the ashes, we’ve seen the spirit of aloha shine brighter than ever. Neighbors helping neighbors, rebuilding homes, and restoring the beauty of the community. Let us all continue to support and uplift our Maui ‘ohana as we move forward, honoring the strength and solidarity that unite us. ❤️ #MauiStrong #Maui #Lahaina #Hawaii #Resilience #Community #AlohaSpirit #OneOhana

We stay connected to our communities through our community impact initiatives. This allows our ‘ohana the opportunity to stay in touch with local non-profits that are aligned with our volunteering and charitable giving initiatives. This month we focused on our Nā Koa Kahiko veterans impact event, supporting veterans and their families. Recently, our Clarksville, Tennessee, office spent the morning at the Fort Campbell Army Fisher House. They spent their time moving furniture within the house to better accommodate the families staying there. The group cleaned inside and out, providing a fresh coat of paint to the porches and pressure-washing the outdoor patio furniture and sidewalk areas. They even cautiously removed cobwebs and wasp nests so families could comfortably enjoy the relaxing outdoor areas. ‘Ohana members from the Huntsville, Alabama, area decided to have a bit more fun. They hosted a luau-themed bingo event at the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home. Beautiful lei were provided for all the guests to wear, making the occasion fun and colorful. Along with the bingo entertainment, snacks, drinks, and exciting prizes were provided. Our volunteers were honored to spend this fun time with the veterans. Both of these experiences were a great opportunity to connect with the veterans, and we would like to say mahalo to the Fisher House Foundation and the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home for all they do for our veterans and their families. #Veterans #Military #Ohana #Kuleana #FisherHouse #Clarksville #Huntsville #Impact #OneDAWSON Fisher House Foundation
